I just bought a matched quad of Raytheon 6414 black plates to try in my Dared SL2000a Preamp. I just wanted to make sure that these are OK for my preamp. I know there are a lot of Dared Pre users
on this site, so I thought I would ask. I am using the Dared on my second system with a Pass F5 clone for an amp.

They are and they happen to be in my top 5 favorite tubes for the Dared. Very nice choice and if they are the older horse shoe style getter, even better. I assume they are triple mica?

Mica, late 50's vintage. I got a good deal on the quad, $40. I figure I can keep 2 as a backup or just flip them to someone else that wants a pair.

If'n you decide to part with the other pair, I'd be interested for my Dared.

I just got these. 1 of the four barely has gain, but the other three are fine (Friggin E-Bay!). They sound very nice out of the box, but I would imagine after time they should improve. Is that accurate about these heiney?

Should improve? What do you mean? Is there something wrong with them?

If they are true NOS, as in never played, they should sound a bit better after about 50 hours. Typically ALL tubes sound better after they (and the gear they are in) are powered on for 30-60 minutes regardless of new or used.

These tubes sound great. I can understand why they are among your favorites. Very balanced from bottom to top. I should have specified "break in" time. If they are going to improve in 50 hours then I am sitting in tall cotton. I have them installed in my Dared SL2000a and coupled with Morrow Audio MA-3 cables to a Pass F5 amp. This has proven to be a very synergistic combo. I did want to ask you if you have modded your Dared preamp, and if so, what did you do?

Nope, that is a 12AX7/ECC83 equivalent.

Closest to the 6414's would probably be 5965.

The best 5965's I've heard are Telefunkens and early Sylvania's. RCA's aren't too shabby either
