Hi, I am new to subs. I am currently connecting the subs to the amp speaker output and the speakers are then connected thru the sub per owners manila.. My amp do not have a sub output but has a preamp output. Can I use the amp's preamp output for the sub?? Another question, what is the minimum amp power required to drive this sub. Its a power sub, whats the different with the speaker? I cannot find the info in owners manual. I have a small Đ amp which has only 18W/ch can I use it to drive this sub??

Hi cusco69.

The sub has its own power supply you just need to plug it in for power.

Assuming you have the wireless transmitter and receiver you can use the preamp outputs to connect to the subwoofer by following the wireless option 2 connection diagram (Line Level) on page 7 of the owners manual.

If you are making a wired connection you can use the preamp outputs to connect to the subwoofer by following the wired option 3 connection diagram on page 8 of the owners manual.

If all that does not work for you give Polk customer service a call and they can provide assistance.

Thanks for your quick reply. Do I use the same type of component cable to connect the preamp out to the sub? Oh by the way I do not have wireless as its not availabe here where I live.

Yes the cable type is basocally the same but I do use Auidoquest subwoofer cables in my system.

As for wireless the subwoofer you bought is capable of a wireless connection to your AVR using its own proprietary wireless connection transmitter and receiver. I am not talking about wireless PC networking. Please take a look at your manual or even that products page on the Polk site for more information.

Thanks MADGSF. Whats the difference between rca, speaker and subwoofer cable? I used the sun-cable supplied by the polk dealer but the amp clicks off and goes into protective mode. I have to use normal speaker (12 gauge) cable to connect before it works. Its very confusing, Sorry.

No problem cusco69, if it is going into protection mode something else is going on. Maybe you mean it is going into standby because it does not see a signal?

The RCA and Subwoofer cables are basically the same thing. They are designed for low level signals, that is signals not driven by speaker outputs. Not sure what a sun-cable is but if it is RCA and not too long of a run, say less than 30 feet, it should be fine. Not sure what you have going on but it is either the way you have it connected which make the sub go into standby or there is an issue with the sub causing it to go into protection mode.

I suggest you call Polk customer service for help.
