Would be a lot easier if they just didnt allow posters with less than 5 posts for example to post links or attachments.

I'd even go as far as to say...20 post min to post with attachments and links.
    No excuses!

22 would cover you as that how many sub-forums there are on this site. There is even settings in the vBulletin software that can be enabled so new posts have to be moderator/administrator approved before they show to normal users of that forum. Five seems to be a magical kinda number though as most spammers seem to stop at that number.

To me, this is a far bigger problem to solve than newbies being able to see the for-sale forum. I'm not a fan of that new policy. I've got people who are participating in my group buy for the 1000va Dreadnought transformers who can now longer see the thread. So if I had started my group buy a few weeks later, I'd have had a much tougher time getting 10 orders because a few of the people who bought would never have even seen the opportunity. I'm sure Larry and Tony have sold stuff to people with fewer than 100 posts. I like the idea of keeping people with below 100 posts from posting threads in the for-sale forum, but not from viewing the forum.

These spammers, on the other hand, are a far more annoying problem. I like the idea of a minimum post count before you can post a link. I'd even go so far as to say you should have a minimum post count before you can start a thread. I know a lot of noobs join just to start a thread to ask a question, but lets face it, most of those questions have been asked and answered if they just did a little searching. And most of the time the noob gets their question answered and then you never hear from them again anyway.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

Well deserved weekend off for the mods. I mean really, would someone just walk up to a group of people talking and start spouting off movie titles? This guy is a sociopath who needs a good butt kicking!

With spam on here you can at least ignore it.

My biggest hate are Robocalls at home. Cell spam is even more annoying.

I am on every imaginable do not call list and I am positive that the list is just sold to more spammers by the guvmint.

Nspindel - There's ways to setup a group buy and not exclude ppl that cannot see the FM. They can always email you, regardless of newbie status if you're that motivated, post a simple FYI thread in the Clubhouse. I'm sure you can organize something if you really wanted to do so and have done already correct? It's a shame that the issue exists but you need only look to a couple of the latest group of Polkies that have made that rule a necessity.

As far as this SPAM issue is concerned, why does someone, usually a newer individual...always chime in with ways to use vBulletin? Like this has NEVER occurred to Polk or the Webmaster PatrickC? Seriously, let him handle things as he has far more experience than the toilet versions of web masters that are available here including myself. SPAM doesn't last THAT long here to be that much of a heartache, give me a break. It happens and every time a patch is installed, someone already figured out how to crack it and it happens again.

In regards to WHERE ARE THE MODERATORS!....look there are only a handful of us available and we do our best to cover everything 24/7. I believe we handle it all in fine fashion but every now and then we have to eat, sleep, interact with humanity....you know, the sort of thing you do before you come and complain about Club Polk? I'm sure you same folks are ready to help moderate in order to curb this awful rash of non-rampant SPAM right? :cheesy grin:

Sorry to unknowingly step on toes. I was just trying to make a helpful suggestion on spam prevention for your site. I again apologize for the intrusion and didn't know it would be met with such a defensive attitude.
