Well I got a Antehm mca 5 200wpc amp in today. After jammin out the whole morning into the afternoon it just keeps sounding better and better as I throw a bunch of familiar tracks at it. I had the Emotiva 5 channel and because of that I always thought my Anthem mca40/50 was garbage for music but now I changed my mind. This is my first taste of what a good solid state amp sounds like so it has me thinking .... whats even better than the mca5 ? what amp next ?

I think I am looking forward now to a nice 2 ch amp for music only next but for now I am just really enjoying the avm and mca combo. Later I will fire a few blurays through it to really open it. I now know what the synergy word means in relation to components as this is my first time experiencing it. Not only does the 2 anthems sound great together but the Martin Logan speakers have never sounded better.

My speakers are giving me alot more detail and separation than before and everything seems really fluid throughout the upper frequencies with super awesome decay. The bass is really good in the fact that its tightness really goes good with the fast response of the electrostatic panels. When I listen to acoustic tracks I really get that airy sound and the separation of instruments sounds great. I notice alot of panning between the speakers too. So clear, crisp , fresh and warming all at the same time I think this amp will fit my needs for multi ch needs for movies leaving me free to just concentrate on my 2 ch project for the future

I've always wondered, is it bad to have the heat from the amp rising into the pre like that?

Nice pickup...great amp. I wouldn't be so quick to throw it under the bus though as far as using it in 2 channel mode. A great amp is just that, a great amp. Congrats & enjoy!

Very sweet PFB, glad to see you have your game on. That Anthem pre is no slouch, also glad you decided to keep it and mate it up with a decent amp. Now, for those who claim all SS amps sound the same, yet another who has experienced the opposite. Congrats man, enjoy.

THJ....a thing I have noticed in a few of your posts. You seem to be more focused on wattage to form opinions on the quality of amplifiers. Don't get caught up in the 'higher the watts the better the amp' thing. You'd be far better off with 100 watts in a quality amp than 250 watts in a crappy amp. IMO of course...

    PFB:

Now you know why we steer folks away from Emo gear, its just not as good IMHO as other options out there if your willing to look used.

Glad you finally got to hear that elusive synergy. I would suggest not **** with it because its hard to find, and REALLY easy to lose....

As with all things audio though YMMV.

The MRX was fantastic and really loved having it in my rig although the time was short it was sweet. There is a guy on ebay who listed two open box MRX 300's last night and today one of them is gone. He is selling the remaining one for $600 + $40 shipping so they don't get much cheaper than that, here is a link http://www.ebay.com/itm/Anthem-MRX-300-7-1-Channel-560-Watt-Receiver-/150909833671?pt=Receivers_Tuners&hash=item2322ed51c7

Thanks guys for all the positive comments and helping me out with the choice

congrats on the amp! Anthem stuff is very nice, and its a great combo.

I would suggest however getting the amp off the carpet and getting it some room to breathe, apart from that nice system!

Just threw an offer of $500 just to test the waters and it was accepted.....i'm going to be the new proud owner of an MRX300!!! I was looking at that last night as well. There was a 500 for $900 which was tempting but i got gunshy and that 700 for $1300 was worth drooling over but home repairs dictate my spending limit. I guess the flea market will be flooded with stuff from me in the next couple weeks to help pay for this little guy.

Thats a great price you got on that, great score I'm sure your going to love it . I think you did the right thing by getting the mrx300 because you can just hook it up to a good amp and you have one hell of a pre. The 300 I had drove my ML speakers in my small room louder than I cared to listen. ARC is alot of fun to play with and you get to see all the changes you make to the room and how it will affect the frequency response on a graphic chart, its no different to the pre's
