SDA 2B (tweeters question)

The tweeters in my SDA 2B's have a clear dome. I'm sure that's how they made. Is this a fragile tweeter, subject to blow with serious volume pumping through them?? When I say serious volume, I'm not talking about ear bleeding volume, just in your face volume! Thinking of replacing them to the upgrade versions, but if they are working, I may hold off on that for now.

Careful how quickly you replace those, because if you end up doing a TL upgrade to your crossovers you'll need to replace those tweeters again.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

Hello Johnny, when I bought my SDA1cs they had the rdo tweeters in them.I think they are smooth as a baby's bottom. As the others have said be sure of what upgrades your going to do before buying the tweeters. And again be sure to properly burn in.

If you have 2B's with a pin/blade sda cable, there's a fairly simple mod to the crossover that would allow you to use the RD-0198 (SL3000 replacement) instead of the RD-0194 (SL2000 replacement). If you'd be comfortable taking the speakers apart and removing the crossover components and upgrading them, you'd be well advised to go ahead with this mod if your 2B's are pin/blade. But you should reach a decision on this before you upgrade your tweeters. Do some searching on "TL upgrade" it's one of the most discussed topics on this forum.

I do not feel comfortable taking anything apart, so screwed I will be in that department until I meet someone in the area that will help me out. My SDA'a are the Blade/blade and the ones that a polk tech suggested I get, as polk still makes parts for them?? (or they can??)

Assuming 23+ year-old poly switches are still working properly, yes.

I don't believe blade/blade 2B's are TL-modifiable anyway. If the dome on the tweeters is translucent, not black, then they are SL-2000's. Call Polk customer service and order two Rd-0194 tweeters. Tell them you are a club Polk member and you will get a small discount.

Thanks. I will give these a good listen when the new receiver gets here and make the call then. I appreciate the info.

They can be TL'ed but it's more work that P/B model as you must move a wire to ground also. Tophat stick with the 194 platform to make your life easier. The 194's are 100x better than the old SL2000. Between the extra work on the XO and wire you could be over your head so to speak from what I've read in your post's

I agree with pitdogg2. And have to admit that I've been too lazy to drop in the RD-0194s into my own SDA 2Bs below. They're doing closet duty at the moment as we let the tubes warm up the JBLs. SDAs really do need a LOT more space than I currently have permanently available. Great speaker, "inflexible" placement!

Do what you can unless there's a friendly neighborhood Polkie (DIY-guy) near you! With great power comes....you know the drill!

Johnny the tweeters I am talking about are the 194s from polk.
Here"s my 2 cents, hook them up to your new receiver when it comes.Get used to the way they they sound, just enjoy them for a while.Once you have a baseline in your head start the upgrades IF you want, they will only get better with the upgrades.
I have had my 1Cs for a few months now and am very happy,I'm slowly buying parts as funds are available, when I have everything I need they will be redone. In the meantime they put a big smile on my face every time I hit the switch.Enjoy the music that's what got all of us into this hobby from the start.

Enjoy your speakers the way they are now and then upgrade to the rdo-194 tweeter so you can really notice the difference.
