Just when I thought everything was perfect with my new system...
In playback mode, my vcr displays a very poor image. On a recorded tape, the bottom half of the screen has snow, and on all tapes there are two bars on each side of the screen!
I took my new receiver out of the loop, and by methodically tracking down the problem I figured out that the poor quality is a result of having the vcr inside my tv stand!! I can leave everything connected, and as I remove it all of a sudden starts display a fine image again.
The tv stand contains the receiver on the bottom, a shelf about 2.5" above the receiver and on that shelf a dvd player, and ontop of the dvd the vcr. All the wiring (speaker cables, ac plugs, vid cables everything) goes out a hole in the back of the unit about level with the back/top of the dvd player. (very close to the vcr)
The tv sits on top of the stand.http://groups.msn.com/BicyclingForumPicPost/jacalsspot.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=4654
That's a pic of the old receiver and config (vcr on bottom, now all reconfigured as described) but if you can actually see anything, it is just to give an idea of proximity etc.
What can I do? What is causing the interference? Do I need to resort to some lowly aluminum foil trick? Should I place the smaller vcr UNDER the dvd (looks bad & doesn't fit right). Should I cut larger/more holes in the back of the unit to get the cables more spread out or something??
Thanks for any suggestions.

Well after much fiddling and misdirection I solved this VCR interference problem.
The problem was created by moving the vcr that much closer to the bottom of the tv. I guess the strong magnets or whatever from the tv were bothering the panasonic vcr.
I moved the vcr/dvd to the bottom shelf, and put the receiver on the top, just below the tv. I doubt the televisions magets can have any effect on a receiver. Doesn't sound like it.

I'm guessing you guys are joking, but I'm talking about a VCR - a video cassette recorder.
You know, those big tapes you record your tv shows on? The tapes are in the VHS format? It's what we used before DVD?

a vcr is a door stop or a target to shoot at also you can use it to pratice hammering.
