10 Worst cars of all time

A list put together by the fine folks at edmunds.com. I've had the distinct pleasure of driving several of the models included and can't say I disagree with their inclusion on the list. I'm a little surprised at the #1 though and also surprised that my first car wasn't on the list. A 1974 Pinto. It was a POS car but it was cheap and it ran forever with little to no attention required so it's still OK by me.

The Aztek was butt ugly. But how did it top the list over the Yugo?
The Saturn was certainly placed about right. Where was the VW thing?
Or the AMC Mantador and Gremlin?

Wish they'd just list the 10 worst and and not require you to page through pages.

No listing for the Chevy Citation ? Chevy Chevette ? The T1000 ?
Had a Vega Wagon , not long enough to suffer the Rust Virus, though. It did get good gas mileage, could load a boatload of stuff in it, and took a lot of abuse.

Reminds me of an aunt I had. Father bought a fully loaded Mercury Marquis, paid about $7,800. Three months later, my aunt bought a VW Rabbit-diesel. I think after all the extras, plus after market rust protection, she paid close to &$7,000. I think the rust protection was called z-bar, which wasn't offered by the manufacturer, at the time. Really funny since they were building them in Pa.
ANyway that thing was deemed unsafe for road use within 7 years, but her son did drive it on his farm for at least another 10 years. They even decided that seats were an option. She decided to get the fronts only.

Websites do this to increase search traffic exposure as part of an SEO (search engine optimization strategy). I agree that it is cumbersome, but it makes sense if you want to sell ad space.

    I whole-heartedly agree with the #1 pick.

That car destroyed the foundation under one of the greatest car maker. So badly, that even the g8 gt (a bmw 5 series rival for half the cost), the g6 (one of GM's most popular cars), and the solstice gxp (sporting the most powerful engine per cubic inch GM has ever produced) could not resuscitate it.

The 2007-2009 Pontiac lineup was the epitome of a swan song, and many were sad to see them go.

Not to metion the Vibe, a versatile version of the Toyota Matrix. I was seriously considering one on the used market last year before I found a better deal on a used Honda.

I don't think anyone can look at an Aztec without at least a smile, the thing is ridiculous. I remember Survivor giving one away during one of their season's, and you could tell it was acting when the winner got stoked to get one. Then again, a badass like Walter White driving one around in Breaking Bad may have been the ticket to keeping them alive...too little too late I guess.

IMO there are some equally ugly cars as the Aztec, Scion for one, also Kia & Hyundai offerings both past and present. Buick should have been flushed LONG before Pontiac but, they're popular with the somewhat tasteless and unimaginative Chinese people.......Buick lives.

Ugliest does not equate with worst.

Neither does goofiest... although the late, unlamented American Motors Corp. probably hit for the cycle with the Gremlin (a Hornet with its aft end chopped off) or maybe the Pacer (the solar greenhouse effect on wheels).

At this late date, I kind of find myself craving a nice Aztek. Other than their Giorgetto Giugiaro on acid design aesthetic, they're probably not bad vehicles otherwise, and I suspect that in 20 years or so they'll be as valuable as Edsels are now. Food for thought...

Yup, several vehicles are modeled along the same lines, as far as the rear end goes, Prius being one of em.

Aztek wasn't chosen worst because it was hideous alone, but for what devastating effect it had on an already weakened brand name. It was the last ugly nail in the coffin.

There were so many bad Pontiacs in previous years that I would have been hard pressed to buy anything
other than a Trans am. And they stopped making those in 2002.

Yeah, GM really lost focus coming out of the 70's. Pontiac offered anythnig but "driving excitement." They were supposed to be the performance division, but after the energy crisis, they only delivered subpar offerings. The Grand Am and Grand Prix were popular but the brand was a shadow of the builder it was up until the mid 70's. They finally emerged from their decades long coma just in time to see GM corporate pull the plug.

The "innovative" Vega was the last US made car that have purchased.
