New Xfinity converter box

I've been getting notices(letters and cell phone calls) lately from Xfinity reminding me that I have to order the new_ Xfinity converter box from their website and returning the old Motorola converter box at my local Comcast service center by 10/10/2012.. Seems like the local Comcast service center would have plenty of the new converter boxes on hand without having to order one through the website and having it sent to my home etc... Oh one other thing, the letter mentions I won't be charged for any shipping and handling... nothing about being charged an extra monthly fee for using the new box.
