Been thinking about subs and just looking over some older stuff. Found a 1000 that has had a 500w Bash amp already installed and the unit looks brand new. $450 is the price at the moment. Is this a good sub and a good find??

I have a PSW1000 in my setup and greatly enjoy it. Mine has a Dayton Audio HPSA1000 amp on it, and from what I heard while purchasing it it's a good thing that the amp was replaced, sounds like Polk discontinued this sub due to issues with the plate amp. Don't know about that Bash amp you're looking at, someone else will have to chime in.
I like the sub in filling out my two channel system, it does fine for HT but I'd say it's got more of a musical quality than the maximum boominess for movies, or rap for that matter...not a big deal for me. Other issue that some people would comment on this is that it's a ported enclosure vs. sealed, can't say I notice any chuffing or port noise from mine.
I'm not sure about the $450 number either, I will say that I paid a fair amount less for mine than that, though I wouldn't be surprised if the amp factors greatly into that and I got a pretty smokin' deal.
Good luck! -
From what I've heard, Bash amps are pretty good so I'm also assuming the amp problem is solved with that. It'll be pulling double duty with music being the majority of what it does but it will do HT from time to time. Thanks for your info!AVR - Onkyo NR809

Mine died... the amp is not repairable... I tossed it... I could not find an amp that would fit the cabinet

The PSW1000 with the Bash amp is the one to own, a good reliable design. The original amplifier design had problems and didn't see much life in the field.

Would having a different amp help it get lower in the freq range?? Also, I'm leaning toward this one because I will have a 20x30 room to fill and this seems logical. Am I right?AVR - Onkyo NR809

Changing the amp does help the bottom end since the stock amp starts cutting off bass frequencies pretty rapidly under 41hz. The Bash doesn't start cutting till 29hz. But the port has to be modified (which the ones on ebay have been) so that its port tuning frequency is in the mid/low 30's versus the stock 45hz. This will give up some top end 110hz+ performance but no one should be playing this sub, or any real sub that high anyway, and you would probably cross over at 80hz to blend with your RTI12's. Adding more/better grade polyfill also helps bring in the bottom. The BASH 500 with those mods pretty much equals my $1600 Micropro 4000 performance in a much more attractive package for 1/4 the money. Hope this helps.Samsung UN55C6500 55" LED
