RTi70 purchase

I am looking to listen to & purchase a set of RTi70’s or RTi8’s (must be cherry), & a CSi40 for my system. Does anybody have any recommendations in the NYC, Long Island area for a dealer? CC & PC Richards are absolutely pathetic with their sound rooms. CC in Valley Stream had an RTi70 on the left & a Bose on the right. The Westbury CC couldn’t even turn on the speakers. PC Richards was about the same. Any help would be appreciated!

My system:
HK AVR320
Polk RM6600 (I want to upgrade)
PSW350
Sony DVP-S330
Sony CDP-375
Sony 34XBR800
:)

Unfortunately there are not many Polk dealers on Long Island other than CC or PC Richard. You are correct that PC Richard and CC are pathetic when it comes to their audio rooms. The new line is starting to trickle in at CC. I saw open box deals for the 70 and 40 at the Hicksville CC store.

Thanks, I'll have to take a ride to Hicksville over the weekend. I’m not to keen on the open box stuff, but I’ll see what they have. The RTi8’s are looking better but I do want to listen to them in a decent setting first and see where the best deal is. PC Richards usually gives the best price. I bought my first set of Polk’s from Audio Breakthroughs, but they are not a Polk dealer anymore. Bought some stuff from Audio Exchange too, oh well times do change.:p

I am also interested in the Rti8, in a comparison between that and the 70's. I don't blame you on the open box, especially from these types of stores where customers can damage them cosmetically or by overdriving distortion into them at loud levels (cranking bass and treble at the max). PCRichard web sites shoe the 8's at 349 a piece (as much as open box 70's at CC). Good Luck!

We just came from the PC Richards in Carle Place, they have the RTi8's set up & playing. They sound good with the DVD they had set up, but I'm going back with some sample CD's. $349 Black only.

I was at CC in Westbury over the weekend and they will be setting up a pair of 8's next to the 70's being closed out. I will check it out soon. I am really interested in an a/b comparison. I may check out PC also to see, maybe Carle Place. Keep me posted on your listening experience.

do not buy an open box item! especialy if it was a floor model. those things get kick around, dropped, an abused all day for a year. i know because i was a previous employee at circuit city, and every night when we were closing, for the last half hour or so we put in our cd's and cranked up the speakers. and buying it from a previous customer i am not too fond of either, you never know what was done to them before you had them.

i am just speaking my mind about my personal thoughts... just becarfull if you do buy open box... and make sure you test them and listen closly before you do buy them.

I went to the CC in Westbury today. They had the RTi 12‘s playing & there was no salesperson around so I played with the panel & did the comparison myself with the Eagle’s DVD on. Those 12’s are nice! Still needs a sub but the mids & highs are crisp. Much better than the Infinity’s. The 12’s are out of the budget range. It’s starting to look like the 8’s from Crutchfield; they have the cherry and free shipping. I just want to get over to PC in Carle Place & listen to them one more time.

In regard to the "open box" stuff, I can see how they are abused & I would never even consider it.

I just made up my mind, the RTi 8's at Crutchfeild as in another post:

With the CSi 3 it’s the same price as a pair of RTi8's at PC or CC.

Good Luck on your purchase, it sounds like a good deal. I will head over to the Westbury CC to do some listening. Hope they have the 8's set up along with the 12's. I think the 8's with a good powered sub is the best bet considering the 12's need a lot of power to get that bass going.

I ordered the RTi8’s & a CSi3 from Crutchfield on line on Tuesday night. Eagle Global delivered them 10 AM this morning, they are up & the Eagles are playing. What a difference! The mids are nice & crisp, & the highs nice & clear too. They do better with the PSW 350 on. The HK is set to 60 Hz, LFE/ L+R. Front & center large & the surrounds (the rm2300s) set to small. Glad I don’t have to run the fronts through the sub anymore.:D

Congratulations! Sounds great. I did hear the 12's at Wesbury CC, did not have the 8's set up yet. The 12's are nice but need a lot of power to get that bass going. I think you did the right thing, 8's with a sub is the way to go. I am going to the Massapequa store to see if they have them yet. Enjoy the new speakers.
