I have meant to ask this almost since i joined this forum, just thought of it.
I saw this guy on austin city limits years ago and was blown away.
It was while i owned a landscaping business and worked full time, so it was one of those leaves in the stream that just floated away( damn that was poetic)
Just want a few suggestions from cooderphiles as to which albums to start with.

Little Village - a super-group with John Hiatt, Jim Keltner, and Nick Lowe & Ry. Fantastic. For his solos stuff I have Bop Till You Drop and Buena Vista Social Club (not a real fan of this one).[

for starters, go early: sef-titled debut, chicken skin music and paradise & lunch

i ventured into ry cooder after getting my ears on buena vista social club. Actually all the guys on there are fantastic, if you can find any. Some have had careers, some not.
I love buena vista, but the styles of each artist are so different you really have to listen to as many as you can. Ry cooder is awesome, and has different styles himself, so you won't get tired of any of his music!Polk Audio SDA CRS+ crossover 4.1TL by Trey/VR3 (Rings and custom stand by Larry)-Polk Audio SDA SRS2 crossovers by Trey/VR3Parasound HCA1500aYamaha rxa-3070 with musicast-Celestion SL6S presence,- sl9 surround backNHTsuper1's surroundMagnepan SMGParasound 1500pre- Sofia "Baby" tube amp - Monitor Audio Silver RX2 Marantz 2230/B&Kst140Technics 1200mk2 Gamertag: IslandBerserker I am but a infinitesimally small point meeting the line of infinity in the SDA universe -
I started a similar thread in the SF forums:

H9: If you don't trust what you are hearing, then maybe you need to be less invested in a hobby which all the pleasure comes from listening to music. -
My favorite Ry Cooder album is "Into the Purple Valley", released in the early 70's. Still spin it "Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible" - Norm on AA; 2.3TL's w/sonicaps/mills/jantzen inductors, Gimpod's boards, Lg Solen SDA inductors, RD-0198's, MW's dynamatted, Armaflex speaker gaskets, H-nuts, brass spikes, Cardas CCGR BP's, upgraded IC Cable, Black Hole Damping Sheet strips, interior of cabinets sealed with Loctite Power Grab, AI-1 interface with 1000VA A-L transformer

He's scored numerous soundtracks including "Crossroads" which this song appears on. One of my favorite slide pieces....
