Thinkin about buying for 150, owner says it usually needs a push closed, but has no problems with playback or opening.
Worried it might be beginning of a progressive problem, are these known for this, and, is it a deal breaker.
As always, any info or opinions are welcome.

Cambridge Audio has problems with their CD/DVD drives. Most times they start having problems pretty quickly and get replaced under warranty. If they don't exhibit problems right away they are usually pretty solid. I have a friend who works for a dealership that is also a Cambridge Audio warranty repair center. They keep the drives in stock by the case, because it's about the only weak point of any of the Cambridge Audio gear.DKG999

I have no idea. But I can tell you that I have a very very old JVC CDP whose door sticks when you try to eject the CD and sometimes needs a shove to properly load a CD. You need only push it up by hand and out it comes. Otherwise, it plays CDs flawlessly, and it's an early 90s CDP? So if Cambridge Audio can't match that cheapo early CDP quality. I say "shame on them"!
You do know that early CD lasers had a MUCH longer shelf life than what they put in units today. Planned obsolescence...gotta sell, sell, sell!

I had an 840C for two or three years. After two trips back and forth to Upstate New York/Canada for repair under warranty and yet another failure to power up outside of its warranty period a few months ago I tossed it in the trash after breaking the case open to extract a CD.
Not worth the trouble!
Too bad since it was actually a good sounding DAC in addition to being a good sounding CD player when it worked.
