They make pretty good decoupling feet under a component (e.g., turntable) or speakers.
They can also be adapted for use as record clamps :-)

    http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?136200-Clamp-or-no-Clamp

Best of all, they are cheap. I have a box full that I picked up from the "yankee swap" pile at our town dump a while back...

Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner!

So... either hockey pucks'll be very cheap, or they'll be very expensive this season. Is there a Lundberg Letter for hockey puck price futures?

Did someone just ask if we were all "hockey pucks"?

Don Rickles: Frustrated by a lack of acting work, Rickles began doing stand-up comedy. He became known as an insult comedian by responding to his hecklers. The audience enjoyed these insults more than his prepared material, and he incorporated them into his act. When he began his career in the early 1950s he started calling ill-mannered members of the audience a "hockey puck".[10] WIKI

Why is anti-vibration important? Shouldn't the equipment be able to perform adequately as long as it is not on a semi-nice rack/stand and not a wobbly bookshelf?

Raquetball halves work pretty well under source components, provided you can cut them in half accurately.
A sharp exacto knife works pretty well.

Nope. Anti-vibration is as important as good cables. Of course you need to start with a solid rack, and go from there. I added Mapleshade Micropoint brass footers under all my gear. As it was added to each piece the sound got better and better. One of my better upgrades I must say.

Why is not shaking a baby important? Shouldn't the baby be able to handle and perform adequately as long as its not being tossed off a building.

i asked the question about pucks because they're cheap and so am i...also, i was thinking about moving my amp into my rack..that would make the i/c run 2 ft instead of 8 ft...but, the amp would be placed in the rack right next to my right 2btl..

Sorry, forgot to mention that the friend used to use hockey pucks before he transitioned to the vibration pads and his comment was the improvement was for the better. I am still building my rack and will get to try it out next week.

i was thinking on my 2btl's, i have spikes, but because my floors are 'bumpy' tile, i dont have the discs under the spikes..i was thinking of taking a puck, putting a slider under it..then i'll put the disc in the middle...either glued or set in...

So what about when the wife starts dancing near the equipment rack and causes vibrations to travel into the equipment? Will my sonic bliss be ruined? Should I enforce a firm "no dancing" rule when listening to music?

I use 3 hockey pucks under my BR player to raise it a bit, because my cabinet door trim blocks the remote from working.

I wonder if these would work under my TT? It is currently on top of a heavy wooden equipment rack, but there is no vibration control. The TT skips if my son is walking (running:cheesygrin:) around. I know the wall mounted units are supposed to be much better, but that is not an option currently.

I doubt they'd work in that application, pucks are pretty hard/stiff rubber.

I feel these would work much better

there are two sizes depending on the weight of the item. I've used audioquest sorbothane big feet under my CD player i could body slam someone in the room and it wouldn't skip. Since HCM was told to quit selling the big feet in bulk for nickles on the dollar compared to 30.00 ea that Audioquest charges.
I bought a set of 4 for 50.00 when they sold them. These are the next best thing IMHO

see post 22 that is one very good reason. some cheaply made stands can induce a hum also if pick up by sensitive equipment and CD players can be very skippy on some floors when pets or people walk near the rack.

    so addressed CLIPDAT....

Oh ok, so it's in regards to physical needle/stylus or laser pickup skipping, not directly related to fidelity or quality of audio. Got it.

Yep, they will work. I will find out from my friend what else he puts those under I know he has them under TT and CD player but not sure about other equipment. Meeting up with him tomorrow.

While that part is true, fidelity is directly affected by vibration. Micro vibration created internally by the electronics, and vibration by the sound pressure of the music on the rack and gear. For maximum fidelity, this vibration needs to eliminated, or minimized.
