Thanks Drumminman, Have known about red yeast rice all along through our pharmacist, only concern is no standard dose, you are right in that its a statin.

Also, coq10 has been one of my regular nightly medicine since taking statins, this time from my sister, who let me know statins would rob you of that.

I app. all advice on this.

Tony, I take algal DHA, I used to take fish oil, no problems with burping or anything, just saw a DR.oz episode, where he said they found through research that the algea the fish were eating was whaere the benefit came from, nothing the fishs bodys did to the algea.

Basically he said you could bypass any of the issues with fish oil, the slight digestion problems, some mercury levels in some manufacturers, by going straight to the source.

Now they may change the recommendation next week, but at least for now.

I get mine at CVS drugs, so its pretty readily available.

While statins have their place in medicine, we seem to push drugs more so than trying to find out whats wrong. Your health and well-being, if left to a doctor and drug company will result in an empty wallet and possibly create more problems as a side effect. Only you are in charge of your own health and education is a big part of it. Sure, you have to sift the sands of info to find some shread of truth in all of the info available online, but just use common sense, there are no miracle cures....for anything.

My problem with modern medicine is they treat symptoms and not the actual problem. Of course thats a pretty broad brush, and not all are like that but a darn good chunk of them are. If you can avoid statins, or any other lifetime drug, do so. Find the root of the problem and deal with it. In other words, don't accept force fed info by people or drug companies who's only interest is your wallet.

It's been my experience that once some do find the root of their problems, and it involves diet changes and excersize, they'd rather pop a few pills every day.....then complain they can't afford their medication and need everyone else to pay for it. Sound familiar to anyone ? Just my .02...but if you can't invest some time and knowledge into your own health and well being, then you deserve to lose it. Like the Dentist slogan, ignore your teeth and they will go away. Ignore your health, and it too will go away.

I worked in Pharmacy for 13 years before switching to IT what most people are describing is a common side effect of the statin class of drugs. Myalgia & Athroalgia are exstremely common when this side effect occurs most docs will either switch you to another statin, lower the current dose or try to move to an alternate therapy.
PS: All medications are "Poisons & Toxins" with a set of side effects. Modern medicine simply uses these side effects to attempt a benifical outcome. Chemical Risk VS Reward is all it is.

Alo would like to add cures are not as profitable as treatments...

FYI-Coq10 is a form of fat/wax it is absorbed better when you take it with fatty substances such as healthy oils (Olive Oil). Flax seed oil is a good alternate to fish oils. DHA is some rightous stuff studies show higher IQs with children that have adequate amounts during development.

Flaxseed oil is another of my nightime supplements, along with DHA, good to know they complement each other.
