I know that they are totally different animals and one is twice as old as the other.
But how would they compare against each other?
Thanks

Read the first sentence of your post for the answer.
If they are totally different then what is there to compare?
H9"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Differentiation by numbers is for those who do not".--Nelson Pass Pass Labs XA25 | EE Avant Pre | EE Mini Max Supreme DAC | MIT Shotgun S1 | Pangea AC14SE MKII | Legend L600 | BlueSound Node 3 - Tubes add soul! -
I guess your right about that H9
But then how would they compare as far as sound quality? -
Brock is right. Two very different pieces and time periods there. I have an Adcom 545 a very neutral and detailed piece with decent power. I also own any number of "vintage" pieces which is what an early '70s Sony integrated would be. I've never heard that Sony. But from what I've read about early Sonys they should have a softer less detailed sound. Is that good, better, or bad? Who knows! You might prefer it, you might not.
That late 60s to early 70s period is a period many describe as producing somewhat tube-like SS equipment. You hear it on Sansuis and some Sonys, etc. from many who own them. I do have an early Sansui piece that might fit into that time period.
In any case, it probably needs a recap if it hasn't had one. Going on 40 years there!

I was just curious is all.
I too have an Adcom 545II with new caps and other things so I am very familiar with them and their sound pre and post re-cap
And I owned a 545 before the 545II
Was curious about the really vintage stuff
The Sony unit looks like a nice amp, it is only an amp, apparently it has a tuner/preamp section that is supposed to be mated to it. -
I see, it has "gain" levels for Right and Left channels, that made me think it was an integrated. I say, give it a listen, nothing wrong with switching things out. I have a lot of vintage stuff I sometimes listen to "more" than what's supposed to be "much" better!
In fact right now, I'm listening to a cheap **** Allied Model 426 receiver that has about 7.5 watts x 2 and a couple of Wharfedale Denton 2XP speakers because Allied made decent FM radios and the FM college station is "pleasing" through this unbelievably low cost system!
