Digital connection from Audigy2 ZS

I need alittle insight about making a digital connection from my CL Audigy2 ZS sound card to my Receiver. What I'm wondering is, the sound card has a 1/8 mini connector for making 2.1 upto 7.1 digital output connections on it, and in order to get digital 5.1 through my receiver, I need to convert the digital 1/8th output from my sound card to the digital coax input on the receiver.

Now, I've tried using a 1/8th stereo mini from the sound card to the coax input on the receiver, but it would only allow a 2.1 connection. How do I get the full 5.1 or 7.1 digital signal from the sound card to the receiver? Do I use a 1/8th mono to RCA mono?

I have a similar situation. I've got the SB Audigy 2 and have successfully used a 1/8 mono to RCA mono to get the digital signal to the reciever. However, all I get is 2.1 channels. I believe there might be some setting to force the soundcard to go digital out only and you could then use the speaker control panel to set up the number of speakers you have. In the long run, I didn't spend to much time with this as 2.1 was good enough for me to get my MP3 collection playing ala jukebox style.

i'd play with the settings on your computer.

my old 5.1 soundcard has a mini-toslink digital out that plugs into one of the minijacks, not coax as far as I know. Radio shack sells mini-toslink to toslink connectors/cables, you can also ebay them

I went thru the same set of problem. I contacted Creative cust svc for this issue and they said the mini digital output on the back of the card cannot be used for digital output to the receiver. They said it contains more information than the digital coax/optical outputs. The mini digital output is used for Creative Labs 51./7.1 speakers that has a DIN input.
You r right they will output only 2.1 if u connect it to the receiver. I have the Audigy Platinum EX that has an external module that comes with the SPDIF in/out for both optical & coax.
If you want to used the DAC on the receiver you have to goto AudioHQ utility and then selected SPDIF Passthru only instead of AC-3 decodes. Even when this option is set the player you play your av source should allow spdif passthru. I use WM player 9.0 and it has SPDIF passthru for DVDs.
I have learned all this the hard way. I hope this helps.

I wish I had seen this thread, oh, 10 months ago when I got my Audigy 2. I hope I am wrong, but I think you are screwed. I am pretty sure that Creative's CS is correct. I had all the same problems mentioned above. I could never get a true DD signal in all 5.1 channels to be sent properly to my receiver. There is one exception, but it sucked. I could get all 5.1, but, every .6 seconds or so, EVERY, it would skip, then speed up to catch up, then pause, speed up, pause, and so on. So, that wasn't really an option either. I tried every possible configuration there was to try. Nothing. So, thats as far a I have gotten. I think malikarshad has more luck because he has the EX version with the SPDIF connection. We, however, are stuck with the 1/8 minijacks. Sure am glad it has a firewire connection when it could have a SPDIF connection instead. I would try Ceruleance's advise first before you give up. If you have any luck, let us know.
