I have an old Kenwood surroung amp I was going to sell at a yard sale. I plugged it in to check if it worked
and it did. I put $45 on it thinking it a good solid amp for that price.
Well later on today my wife calls and tells me it will not turn on? I told her to bring back home and I'll look at.
I plugged in when she came back and sure enough nothing, only stand by light came on.
I am not too tech on this stuff but it didn't make sense so I took off cover and looked around a bit. I noticed
4 fuses on what looked like power supply, I remove them one at a time and checked if blown which they looked
good .
I put back together and turned on and IT WORKED and has been now for 3 hours with no fail. I guess my question
would be, could it of been possible that fuses were jostled and needed reseated?
I used this amp up until I got my Onkyo around first of this year and then used it again for surround amp in
basement until I got my samsung BD player this spring.

Possible, but not probable.

Its possible too me that the fuse or fuse holder connections got dirty. Did any ends of the fuses look dirty, and if so just cleaned them up some. Just reseated the fused perhaps cleaned them up some.

It sounds like the power on switch oxidized, get a can of Deoxit and clean the switch plus all other connections.

+1 on deoxitGood music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

thanks I'll try that, it's been running fine today but will look at cleaning contacts this week.
