I recently got a new "to me" laptop. Unfortunately I can't use search engines. Every time I type in a search it comes up with the old "cannot find server" error. I can't even get to google to attempt a search, but on yahoo, MSN, etc. I get the error. Any help would be appreciated.

Gidrah - I am no computer answer man, but drop me a line. I will relay my laptop settings to you, and perhaps that will help you.

Do you use a firewall? It sounds like you have a simple setting problem.

I use www.dslreports.com as a computer help resource from time to time. It is a very active website.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    You've got mail.

Well, I reset the default settings and can now search through MSN. I still get the error when trying to search on yahoo or even find google.

Could be that the Privacy settings have most sites blocked. Have you set those to default or Low?

I've tried high, medium, and low, before and after resetting the rest of the defaults. Nada.

I'm running IE 6.0, and under tools, there's a RESET WEB SETTINGS option.....tried that?

What about Security Settings? Going through EVERYTHING in there and play with those settings.........
