Carver amplifiers

I recently picked up 2 Carver AVR-405 amplifiers. I'm using them to bi-amp my LS70's (via Kimber Kable 8TC). As these are used equipment, they should be broken in right? They sound slightly 'veiled' compared to just running the speakers from my Yamaha RX-V2600. Does anyone have experience with Carver amps (or this model in particular)?

Apples and oranges can't really be compared too well.

Yes they would be broken-in; presumably based on the age. Every amp has a different sound signature, and those Carvers are no different. They are designed to be HT amps, so I don't know how they would compare to his 2-channel amps which typically sound good with Polk speakers.

Maybe the amps are in need of some updating, they are somewhat old. What interconnects are you using from the receiver to the amps ? Check that everything is hooked up properly....no plastic coating from speaker wire stuck inside a post.HT SYSTEM-

They might need a refurb but wouldnt know without pics of the insides honestly.
I run a Carver AV-705x 5 channel amp to my LSi 15's via Kimber 8VS internal bi-wire speaker cables and they sound great.
As stated I would check your interconnects and also make sure you removed the stock jumpers from the speakers as well."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." tonyb is probably on the right track.
I ran the same amp on my RT5000 set for years. Got lots of compliments on it.
No experience with bi-amping one though. -
Thanks everyone for the replies, I truly appreciate it.
I re-checked and re-seated my interconnects (Monster 400i) and checked all the banana terminations on the speaker cables... VOILA! Perfection! Beautiful sound! These speakers have never sounded better! -

The reason they sound veiled is because that Yamaha is bright.
