Kimber PBJ Interconnects

I just installed a new set of Kimber PBJ interconnects with the ultra plate RCA connection. I noticed a slight hum coming from speaker before I played any music. I moved the interconnects from behind my stereo cabinet and away from other chords and wire. The problem seemed to go away. Could this be because they are unshielded? Has anyone else had this problem with PBJ?
I may move up to the Hero line (shielded) if that will make a difference. Any thoughts?
