My new Adcom find. These are like new the GFA545II, GTP400. I had to drive to Des Moines, for these, the guy still had the boxes and never sent in the warranty cards yet. Paid $250 for both the amp and pre.The guy had a Wright integrated and a pair of Legacy towers, said those Legacy were pretty pricey. He hooked the Adcom to them and they did a fine job pushing those monsters. I put together this modest 2 channel this adcom stuff sounds good on my 2B's.
who says you cant find deals on craigslist.

I also have a Adcom GTP-450 I picked up off Audiogon that needs a amp. I will be looking for a GFA-535 or A GFA-555 for that pre. I guess one cant have enough 2 channel set ups. I need to quit hanging out here it is not only adictive but spendy on the ol wallet.

That's a great price. I have a 545 as well. It's a really nice unit, sometimes run it with the NaK Ca-5 pre (work well together-ask Brock!). But I certainly didn't pay 250 for both units. Came in a little higher. lol

Enjoy. Plenty of good clean power for the 2Bs!

Great pick up for both units.

Had a 545 and now a 545 II with all new caps and other things.

They make my 1B's sing all day long.

Even though the amp is in new condition I would still open it up and check out the state of things inside

It is 20 years old and caps dry out and or leak even if it was not used alot.

There are mods that can be done to them

    Enjoy

Sweet setup! Love the look of Adcom stuff, it seems to just scream quality. Would love to hear what they're capable of some day.

As a side note, what kind of Marantz CDP is that?

Nice find. I just scored the same GTP-450, a GFA-5300, and a pair of rare JMlab Megane Carat speakers for $70 from a very sweet elderly couple in NYC making room for a new tv. The only catch was that I had to help connect the lady's laptop to their wireless printer. I love craigslist.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone. I opened the amp up prior to hooking it up it was spotless no cap leakage not even dusty, how would one know if the caps were dried out? The CD player is a Marantz CD5003 got an unopened one from an audio store that was not stocking CD players anymore paid $249.00 for it. The GTP-450 that I have has a better tuner section and does sound a bit better than the GTP-400, but the GTP-400 allows me to hook up a turntable to it and is the only reason it is taking the place of the GTP-450. I do believe the 450 is the better of the two.

Not a bad deal. The amp is worth at least that much alone. The 545 is one of my favorite of all the adcom amps. Its a little
powerhouse. Sometimes I regret having sold mine :(

hey dudes I bought my adcom pre 500ii and gfa-545ii on this forum but recently the left channel is cutting out.
the only way to get it back is by shutting the amp off and then cranking the volume on the pre and then you hear a pop and i turn it down and then i get my left channel back. I had this problem before so I changed the fuse inside and got it back. but it happend again. I love this amp and was thinking of getting a gfa-555ii but what is the culprit? should I change the preamp? or the poweramp? or is it another fuse problem? BTW, in case you guys didnt know. I called KEF NJ office today to inquire about the 50th anniversary KEF LS50 speakers. They told me the guy running KEF was the former Adcom president. I'm gonna demo those LS50s tomorrow. I'll let you know what I think. I'm going from lsi7 and monitor audio silver rx2 in my sig.

Swap the left and right connections between the pre and the amp. If the problem switches from left to right then the problem is with your preamp. If the problem stays on the left side, the issue is in the amp. If the problem is on the preamp side, my bet is the pot (volume knob) is oxidized, and some de-oxit should do the trick. Anything beyond that is past my level of expertise.....

I was a firm believer in recievers and integrated amps until I joined this forum and after the advice of several on this forum about seperates, I decided to dive in and glad I did. I belive that nspindel's advice is good advice and that it is probably the pre amp that is giving you issues. I hope you figure it out.

Note, of course, that you should only swap one side of the connections. Meaning only swap the connectors between left and right righter on the am or on the preamp, but not both. If you swap both, you're back where you started, and what you're actually testing at that point is that nothing is wrong with one of the cables.

Huge Adcom Fan, Have a pair of Mono block 565s, pair of 555s, a 5500, 2535, 545 on my main rig. Can be happer, Although i used to use an adcom amp for the upstairs rig, but switched it out for a reference M-90 which I think is as good or better then the 555. But yes, very nice amps. You will love it. Awesome price, I would snag it to for that price. You can never have enough Adcoms in the house. Great build quality, excellent sound, plenty of power and reserve power is what I notice the most.
