After a couple of months of waiting I finally enjoying a pair of 30th Anniversary Compact 7ES-3's on Sound Anchor stands. Can't add anything to the multitude of rave reviews other than agreeing that the mids are as magical as stated.

More later.....

Never heard Harbeth. I like the look of large monitors on short stands.

    What makes them special?

Good score Mark, enjoy. I've got mine on Skylan 20" stands, about 19" off the backwall, with about a 1/2" of toe-in.

Harbeth is a super nice loudspeaker with a classic sound.....if not the benchmark for Monitor's. It's also nice to see steveinAZ get out of the Audio Advisor catalog and step waist deep into some hardcore....manly transducers.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Amazing sound coming from a relatively lightweight box. Certainly one of the best speakers I've ever heard.

I've gone down the path of the "British sound" for a couple years now.
I've listened to Linns, owned Rega, and still own Proac.
Harbeth is one that eludes me. Great score!

To you guys that own the 7es-3, do you think a EL-34 based 45W per channel tube amp would dive the speakers to decent sound levels in a 19X13 room?
    Thanks,
    O

Outlander, this weekend I'll hook up my 35wpc EL34-based integrated tube amp and let you know. I believe it will do just fine from what others have experienced.

Very nice. I'm thinking about starting a DIY project from speaker designer Jeff Bagby. He based it on the original BBC LS3/5a specification. There's a kit available from Meniscus for $354 and here's a link and a photo of a recent build on the PE forum.

An interesting thing that I have noticed since I bought the Harbeth's, is that I tend to listen at lower levels than before. I suspect it's because they are very satisfying (tone) across the board, without needing to be cranked to get that visceral feel. They're extrememly real/snappy with percussion/jazz.

If you click the link under my sig, keeping in mind this is a sub $200 camera with mediocre fidelity at best, but concentrate on the midrange (voice/drums) this was actually captured fairly well. Note the snap on the snare drum...

I have listened to Spendors and found them to be dull, has anyone else thought this. I would love to get my hands on a pair of Harbeths, since I am very picky about the midrange of speakers.
