I agree with eclypse whole-hearted about the Denon's, ether the 2200 or 2900. Both are fantastic machines. If you are budgeted around a 500 dollar mark go with the 2200, but if you can spring another three to four hundred, by all means, get the 2900, will will not be disappointed! And you would also have DVD-Audio as well.

The Denon's mentioned above are good machines, but that would only give you one dvd/cd at a time. With you mentioning the 400 dvd unit, is storage your main priority?

    BIGE,
I agree with the above. If you want a universal player to replace your existing Toshiba, I'd suggest a Denon now. Fortunately you have three to choose from now in different price ranges.

I think the 400 disc MegaChanger idea is a good one. I like Sony's ES components, but doubt that Sony will ever get on the bandwagon with a universal machine. Based on the specs, the Sony you mention should be an excellent player with great convenience and a long warranty. It is really too new right now for there to be a range of reviews on it out now. I have used a couple of CD only MegaChangers from Sony and found them to be thoroughly reliable. A word of caution though--be sure to check its dimensions to see if it would fit in your rack space before you buy one because the changers are very large.

Denon really has this niche wrapped up nicely. There are some other UNI-Players, but none of them match Denon at this time. The 2200 is an excellent value, extremely hard to pass up.

I am a Sony ES fan, but have to defer to the Denon in this case. Do not expect Sony to back DVD-A at all, since they are 100% committed to SACD.

The Mega-Changer is a neat idea, but you are going to lose some things for convenience. The DVP-CX777ES is the best Mega-Changer available, hands down IMO.

I took a hands on look at the new sony 400 mega.... 985, and my first thought was, this has got to be the cheapest feeling unit I have very seen. I couldn't believe something could feel that way, but it did, atleast to me it did.

The non-ES Sony is just not something that should be considered, period. The DVP-CX777ES is way beyond the DVP-CX985 or other non-ES Sony changers.

No i thought this would be a good choice because it had 12 Bit Video DAC with 216MHz Processing with NSV, but to your question no i dont care if its single disc or multi just as long as has excellent picture quality and sound.I thought it would be a awesome step up to my TOSHIBAS 10-Bit 54mHz DAC.

    Is that from experience dholmes?

If I caught somebody in my house, I wouldn't hesitate to bust a .357 semi hollow point cap in their ****.

What exactly would you characterize as a semi hollowpoint?

A very shallow hollow (like a mild dish)? What brand ammo is that? Or do you mean a semi-jacketed hollowpoint?

I like CorBon +P ammo for self defense applications. Light, fast, and very deep hollowpoint cavity for rapid expansion and moderate penetration.

I use the 115 grain 9 mm +P, and the 135 grain .40 S&W +P. The .40 cal offers near identical terminal ballistics to the standard 125 grain .357 Magnum load.

DS, I did mean semi-jacketed hollow point.

The .40 is an awesome piece. If I were going to buy a new gun right now, that would be it. The knockdown power of a .45 while still being able to get a staggered clip due to bullet size like a .9.

I'm amphibious, er, I mean, ambidextrious, so I use 2 .357s with 7 (not 6) round revolvers. I personally like a revolver better, just wish they had more capacity. I also have .44s, but I like the .357s better. To much recoil, even for somebody my size, with a 44 in case you had to get off multiple shots rapidly. Also have a 9 and 45, but I just like the 357s best.

.357 Magnum = great round. Yes, a hot-rodded .38 Special is all, but that extra case capacity really makes a difference.

I have a Ruger Super Redhawk 9-1/2" for deer hunting and it crushes them pretty well. The long barrel mitigates recoil and muzzle blast (to the extent that is possible with the .44 Magnum), and the Burris 1X scope allows big field of view, good eye relief, and the duplex crosshair allows precise shot placement. Hitting clay pidgeons on the bank at 100 yards is no big deal with this gun. I just put the reticle on the shoulder and POW! Down they go. Too easy - bow hunting is more fun.

So much for the thread hi-jack! Denon 1200, 2200, 2900 = all great pieces. I set-up a 1200 recently and was very impressed with the PQ (at any price) and DVD-A was fine too.

Being a medic both of those makes a nice hole, but I have seen more damage done with .22 it bounces around inside! my loss happen when I was gone from home.

dholmes, I'd hate to get hit with any of them! My girlfriend has a Browning 22 I gave her and taught her how to use, and you're right, even a guy as big as Shaq on angel dust wouldn't keep coming for too many more steps if someone pumps 10 or 12 22s in them!

Sorry to hear that they got your player and discs. I wish you could have caught the **** in the act.

I recently chased off a homeless bum ex con that was bothering my mother's office last summer. He came in once asking for money in a sort of threatening manner. Then he came back a second time about a month or so after that, and was even more adament/forceful in his demands for cash. Well, I knew that if he would come back a second time, that there would definitely be a third. I went there every afternoon for about a month, and it finally paid off one day when he happened to come in. Needless to say, I don't think he'll ever be back now. I scared the pure **** out of him! 357s, a Rottweiler, a 70s vintage police club "nightstick", and the fact that I'm not exactly a small dude were all highly effective! I told him the truth, that if you mess with my family, I will kill you! Simple as that. I didn't really hit him, but I literally threw him out.

Doc, I use 38 bullets for target practice because they are so much cheaper than 357 rounds, but there is a big, big difference in the bullets that you can tell when actually firing them. The 38 rounds feel almost like a toy cap gun by comparision.

About hunting, please don't take this the wrong way, but I'm just not into it myself. I think that if these hunters really want a challange, then let them get out in the woods and hunt each other, something that can actually shoot back, like in the jungles of 'Nam instead of shootin' defensless animals.

dholmes is right about the small caliber bullets. I saw a guy get killed by a single .25 bullet because of the "bounce around" effect. Personally, I pack(to the shooting range of course ;)) a Taurus 9mil, which is basically a Beretta rip off, but a lot cheaper.
