Hey fellas, looking at buying a house and its got hardwood floors in the LR. The 12s have hard plastic floor spikes currently. Would you get rubber ones or just take the spikes off and put them on a piece of carpet? Any suggestions are welcome!!

Keep them spiked with high quality metal spikes - lots of threads of discussion can be found with purchasing sources linked - to keep the sound quality at it's best. Then, to protect your hardwood floors, get the little discs that go under the spikes. The discs have a divot in the middle to keep the disc in place. They work like a charm.

An absolute "NO!" to the piece of carpet idea.

Got any idea where to pick up some of these discs?? Just for my info, why no carpet? Its just for under the towers and there is no porting underneath them.

Because spikes will penetrate the carpet, making nice marks on your hardwood floor.

I was gonna take the spikes off and let them sit on the piece the spikes screw into.

If you do that, and you can for what it's worth, you'll have less bass response. Maybe alittle, maybe more, who knows, but the spikes tighten up the lower end by anchoring the speaker. It's not just for looks.

No, get the floor discs and metal spikes. All can be had at Adona or Parts Express.

This is what I did, except I took a drill and made my own little center indentation for the spike to sit on

    Works like a champ

You do know that defacing of US currency is against the law, don't you? :loneranger:

You can get the discs (gold or black), pre-indented, at Meniscus Audio for about $0.25 apiece. They also have several spike options available that several forum members have used and spoken highly of.

Where can I buy those floor spikes? I have a couple RT1000i coming in that I bought for my father and am missing those spikes. I guess any aftermarket will do.

Because where the tip meets the disc would be too weak, it'd snap off in a heartbeat.
