Not sure if this is the right place to ask but I have just acquired a Tandberg Tuner-Amplifier, its model no is HI-FI FM
Think its from 68/69, I also think this is a really rare receiver, is it rare?
I cant find much out about it anywhere, it doesnt seem have have a conventional model no, it just says HI-FI FM

The left channel is working great, the right channel is distorted so will need some work

I think because its seems rare it could be worth a lot as a collectable piece of retro gear?
anyone shed some light please?
Is it worthwhile getting the right channel repaired.

That's older than the Tandberg receivers I am familiar with - but by and large Tandberg's receivers were very nice pieces with excellent tuners (although sometimes somewhat shaky construction and reliability issues). Tandberg was most famous for their (consumer grade but very high performance) tape decks. The company still exists today but operating only (AFAIK) in the computer technology space.

I really cannot comment as to value; not a Holy Grail piece, though, for anyone (i.e., don't base your retirement planning on it!). As to the correlation of rarity and value... well... I think Yugos are pretty rare nowadays, too...

The single best resource for vintage Tandberg hifi information is http://www.kallhovde.com/Njord%20Noatun%27s%20Vintage%20Audio%20Resources.html(or, the more specific link is http://sportsbil.com/tandberg/).

There are almost certainly a few Tandberg fanboys here(*); www.audiokarma.org is also a great place to look for and/or to ask for information.

    * I probably qualify as a borderline Tandberg fanboy.

Carefull just because its old and you never saw it before dosent mean it valueble. Its cool looking in that retro way though and has a cool sounding name. Always do the research BEFORE purchase. Just saying.

    Welcome to Club Polk!

If Mark doesn't know that model, chances are that "none" of us will! Tandberg's are not necessarily rare but they usually bring a good price on resale. I'd definitely say it IS worth getting it fixed. What you might first want to do though is just OPEN the unit up and hit all the controls with a touch of DeoxIt. Then work the controls back and forth or push them in and out. Wait an hour or more for things to dry up, and turn her on. See if that's improved anything?

In any case, a nice looking vintage piece to, Enjoy!

Heh. It is indeed, officially, named the "Tuner-Amplifier Hi-Fi FM" and you can find it on page 25 of http://sportsbil.com/tandberg/1969-70-cat.pdf
    How's your Norwegian? :-)

Just sell it the way it is and count your blessings.

The woman at the bottom of page two bears an uncanny resemblance to someone I dated in Grad School who was of Norwegian descent (could be a sister). It's a little unsettling, Mark!
