Speakers For Sale at Local Pawn Shops

I had a chance to stop by a couple of local pawn shops over the weekend and saw some interesting speakers for sale. Unfortunately my current company issued Blackberry does not have a camera, so you have to suffer through my descriptions below....

Polk SDA 2a(?) - wood grain vinyl cabinets with one tweeter, two mids and the sub, $299. Looked to be in decent shape, but probably all original. Grills were a bit rough looking, but some new speaker cloth would fix that. Where do these lie in the SDA food chain?

Cerwin Vega D9 - very impressive looking speaker with 15" subs, two mids and one tweeter. Subs needed to be refoamed, but otherwise in good shape. Owner would not give me a price because he's still not sure about selling them (they're just sitting in his store, not sure why he didn't want to sell...). Don't think I would replace my Rti12's with these, but they're very cool looking speakers. Old reviews say they're were obviously had strong bass with the 15' woofers, but not so strong mids and highs. Anyone have experience with these?

12" Venturi Sub - no model number, but both driver and port were in the front. Cone on the all black driver was slightly dented, but otherwise looked to be in decent shape. $95 Is this a Bic sub? Could not find a Bic sub that looked the same with the driver and port both on the front. Any good for second sub with my current SVS to even out the bass response?
Parasound HCA-2003A & 2205A
Front: Rti12's
Center: Csi A6
Side surrounds: Polk Rti A1's
Atmos: Mirage Nanosats
APC H15
Power cords by Pepster, Morrow MA4 IC's, AQ Midnight, AQ Chocolate HDMI's[/SIZE]
The rest is TBD.

venturi sub is nothing special, 300 is a lot for beat up 2a's. and a refoam kit for the d9 is 35 bucks and you got a party speaker. just my opinion, but there it is

I cannot comment about those speakers . But i would suggest craigslist. I bought a pair of rti12s for $300.00.

The CVs are dismal as far as I am concerned.
"Venturi" was or is a BIC trademark.

C-V's will burn nicely and winter isn't far off.

A valid consideration if the cost per btu is more favorable than heating oil.

OK, the CV looked impressive, but some how I'm get impression they're not too well respected here...........

As far as the SDA 2A (is that the right model based on the description?), where are they on the SDA food chain? Worthwhile? Not worried about the asking price, that can be negotiated.

CVs are the classic fraternity party speaker. Tons of big bang bass (bloated and muddy but fun to party/dance to) and very 'efficient' so they'll play loud on very little power. If you need a set of "garage speakers" that will annoy your neighbors. These are excellent candidates. The problem with them is that there are not much in the way of detailed highs or clean mids (or should we say "refined" mids). But hey, at the right price you can party out with these. Just don't expect that kind of clarity and detail that your RTI-12s put out. Get'em cheap and they're OK!

SDA 2As are on the lower end of the food chain but that doesn't mean much. They were probably over 1000 a pair new in the '80s so that's not really low end!

They are superb all around speakers that will do well in most reasonably sized rooms. The larger SDAs really do need TONS of breathing room. So you need to keep that in mind. 300 is the going price for a decent set. 200-250 would be a good price for something less than good condition.

Definitely worth it if they're in working order. Does the dude have the SDA interconnect cable for them as well? Should ask. If you've never done SDAs this is a GREAT place to start. If you're like me, you just might stay there!

Never pay list at the Pawn Shop. They expect customers to hassle. My dad LOVES shopping at Pawn Shops because he loves haggling. He's scored a ton of great music equipment (and pro amps) at these places. Being in Vegas, there is no shortage of Pawn Shops either.
Do you hear that buzzing noise?
