Typically I haven't been a fan of LCD's, but I think the Hitachi is pretty nice. The colors really wow me on HD. During fast moving pictures or on SD it can get some chunkiness to the picture. Also I think I would sit just a little it further back from it than a regular RPTV because of the LCD screen door effect. Overall I like it, but you might also want to check out the Samsung DLP's as well and see which you like better.

I've sold 12 of them and so far the biggest complaint is when my customers use standard cable for a signal. In short they said it's the worst picture they have ever seen. Everthing looks great in HD, it's when you have a poor signal it starts to break down. If you use a dish you will love the set, if you have basic cable look for something else. Cable is fine for 36" sets and below. If you spread it out above that be prepaired for a crappy picture.

I have 2 Hitachi big screens. A 57S700 (HD, widescreen) and a 1999 53" (non-HD, 4:3).
The 57S700 is best for the HD channels and DVD's, while regular cable looks best on the older TV. I only use my widescreen for HD broadcasts and DVD's. The picture is still superb on the older Hitachi.
Also keep in mind that digital TV is not HDTV, and there are relatively few HD channels, and even some of the "HD channels" don't broadcast in HD all the time. If you don't have some kind of HD access, then you won't get to enjoy the full benefits of widescreen. A true HD broadcast, 720p or higher, looks better than DVD's (480p).
If you set your expectations correctly, you will be happy with Hitachi, as I am. -
we get quite a bit of hd in are area so with a decoder it would be cool..
we have it on display at our store broadcasting HDNET from DirecTv on it and man does it look good pretty accurate colors and detail compared to some of the others i have seen..Speakers:
