I am trying to use the optical out on my Sony dvd to my 3803 as a cd player. I can't get it to work. I have tried asigning the right outputs. The red light is present at the end of the cable. Any suggestions?

double check to make sure you have the correct one assigned in the setup menu and that it is inserted fully, make sure you don't put any sharp bends in it when you put it back in place cause you can break or fracture the fiber optic cable inside. I would also feel the cable to make sure there are no kinks inside the cable if there are it is junk IMO.

    Good luck

A lot of times you have to change the settings on the dvd player too. Check that out on your Sony. Also press the input mode button on the Denon to make sure it is set to Auto and not analog.

Dave i just noticed your location. What part of the great communist state of Pa are you from? I live 25mi south of Pittsburgh. I still can't get this thing to work. Looks like it is new DVD/SACD time. Any good suggestions? Is there a good multi-disc available for under $600? I probably don't need one but I want one real bad. So what is the difference?
