Just a little advice from those that know these tube pre amps. Would something like the dared sl-2000a improve quality of sound between my 7605 adcom and sony reciver? I dont think i could run my center channel through it. Why i ask is i happened to be at best buy the other day and they had a small unit made by samsui i think and it was vac tube and you could sure tell the difference between it and the one which wasnt. thanks

You are looking for a tube buffer, the Dared SL2000a is a pre-amp not a buffer, so no, it won't work they way you want to configure it.

I believe Samsung has an HT receiever that has tubes glowing in a window as the tubes are inside.

I looked at the buffers not so sure about them. Look a little cheap to me. Was thinking of rti a7 or the lsim703 for the front main speakers. whats your thoughts on these two speakers. thanks

I have 703's with a Grant Fidelity B-283 tube buffer in the chain between the pre- and CDP. My opinion is that the tube buffer was a great buy for the money. Can't remember exactly what I paid for it, but right around $100 (bought it here at CP).

My pre- is a Rotel 116 and amp is a Carver tfm-55.

No experience with the RTiA7, but I can't imagine it's anywhere close to the 703 for music. The 703 is just an amazing bookshelf speaker.

Sounds like grant fidelity b-283 tube buffer would place to go for me. Looks cool and improved sound. Do realy like the 703 next step. Thanks

WARNING! My first piece of tube gear was the Grant Fidelity tube buffer. It is a very low cost admission ticket to a very expensive party! You will love it, and then if you're like me, it won't be your last piece of tube gear! It's great, but consider yourself warned....

I got hit by the tube bug hard. I now have 5 pieces of tube gear and 3 boxes aprox. 150 pieces of tubes for said gear. Hell, I have (6) rectifiers for the Dared alone. 4 different brands/construction with a couple of my favorites as duplicates.

I joke that I can't stop buying tubes, and it has become a minor addiction as I sit here with 2 more postal packages of tubes that arrived today with another on the way.

I do need to stop, seriously I do.

I feel your pain. Seriously I do. I'm in a similiar situation and I have a package for a matched pair of RCA 5751 TM BPs on their way. As I've said before, hi my name is Steve and I'm a tube addict. :-)

Probably! That's a "deadly" combo: Tubes and ebay! I just went cold turkey off my ebay addiction a month ago. Can't imagine if I could have broken free if we added "tubes"?

Ebay and tubes - The addiction

    1) lots of stuff available
    2) the hunt
    3) the hunt for a great deal, perhaps something the seller doesn't even know he has
    4) the thrill of sniping
    5) the thrill of winning
    6) the anticipation of getting a package in the mail
    7) actually listening and evaluating said tubes
    8) sense of accomplishment for getting a good deal on something cool!

    Only downside

    1) purchasing something totally unecessary
    2) realizing you might have an Ebay problem
    3) not wanting to sell the hoard for fear of never finding them again
    4) realizing whatever you want will always eventually be for sale again on Ebay at some point.
    5) the Ebay app for my Droid

The cool thing for me is I'm a bargain hunter and I will wait 6-8 months for a particular tube I want to try to get a good deal. So the hunt and deal is the thrill for me. I haven't ever really paid what the avearage market price is for a pair of used tubes. I wait patiently until I can get a killer deal.

Most recent killer deal is a pair of 1958 Mullard ECC83 Long Plates for 1/6th what they typically go for. Can't find another pair even close to what I paid so far. But the guy didn't really know what he had. I asked the right questions and he had a low BIN so I snagged them before someone else could.

That's what makes it fun for me, anyone can find and pay top dollar for any tube they want, me it's the constant hunt for a good deal on a rare tube or a tube I don't have.

I just bought a NOS Quad of SED =C= EL34's for $60. Do I need them? No. Was it a killer deal from a reputable Ebayer? You bet. He had (4) sets of quads and they were gone in 1 hour.

Most NOS SED =C= EL34 (Quads) sell for $120-160.
