Hello everyone, I am just looking for some advise on a possible purchase. Right now I have a onkyo tx sr-805 thats
delivers 130 w/ch. And I its powering a pr of rti12s , csi5 (center) and a pair of optimus pro for surrounds. Anyways, Music and movies sound great . But right now I have a chance of getting a pair of amps Parasound HCA-800II for $130 . And they deliver 260 wats 8 ohms mono or 100x2 8ohms.. So The question is that will i benefit in sq with these
amps ? And are there any other real world benefits I would have ? I would just use them to power the rti12s. thanks for the read everyone

The RTi12's will benift from more power.I once had them powered by a Yamaha RXV2600 receiver that I believe also delivered 130 watts/ch. Then I got a Parasound HCA 1500A that replaced a Yammaha RXV2600 and wow did the RTi12's open up.Especially in midrange. You cannot compare the amp section of a receiver to that of a dedicated amp like the HCA1500. I mean the amp has a huge 1kva Toroid transformer. It can output 60 amps per channel ! It is designed by John Curl and is meant to drive most speakers;.The receivers will never come close to that.I can't speak of the HCA 800's but for 130.00 you should jump on the chance and mono block those.Believe me, your RTi12's should reward you and sound like differant speakers. Again, to open them up they want the power !

I would be knocking on his door now for the amps before he changes his mind. Two for $130 is a gift.

with your setup, I don't think many AVRs (maybe except a few TOTL ones) can do well. Get that parasound amps now to drive front speakers and let your AVR does the rest. Watt is just 1 part of the equation, Current is another big one. Since speakers are current driven device, the more current the better.

So I picked up the parasound amps. there in mint condition in and out. After hooking them up to my rti12s I noticed a big difference in music performance. The amps bring out the highs and lows in the speakers the onkyo 805 could not do. My sacds sound even better. And well everything sounds fuller and I dono i swear im hearing
things I did not hear all that much before in the music i listen to.

Now I do have a couple of questions. What xover setting to I set the rti12s at in the 805. And same thing for center? Now that the 805 does not have to power the rtis anymore will in send more power the the center and surrounds ?\

Here's a great article that should answer your questions. Play around with the XO points but 60/80 should be the best. My mains are set at 60 & all others except presence speakers are set at 80.

I think posting that question on this forum will get you a steady stream of Yes answers. After all, it is an audio forum. Oh yeah, and YES get an external amp.
