Here's a story about a three year old deaf boy whose first name is Hunter and has been signing his name using the appropriate S.E.E. gesture, which kinda looks like someone firing a handgun, who has been asked not to sign that way in school!

Regardless of where you stand politically; this is ABSURD!

Enjoy!

Yea this has been all over the local news. It happend in Grand Island, Nebraska. Suposedly the school officials are now denying even saying any thing. They have no recolection of the conversation even happening. I guess all else fails then just play dumb. A lot of this stuff is dumb people in a position of power with no supervision, or any accountability.

A website to pledge to not use a word......interesting. I guess " Dumb, stupid, and a host of other words " could also fall into that catagory of being offensive. Political correctness gone astray. Truth is, it's a moral consiousness to not use offensive words, we don't need others to tell us what is offensive and whats not. If people could spent as much time doing something constructive rather than worrying about the little stuff, this country would be on the upswing.

Don't mean to undermine the proper use of language, but so much today revolves around terminology, that it's impossible to concentrate on working on the real problems we face. Just my .02 is all.

Actually the term "Mentally Retarded" or "Mental Retardation" is extremely accurate given the literal meanings of the words. It's only people, and their lack of any sense who have "backed into" making it a non-pc word. We are losing our vocabulary in this country because people choose to accept "new" or bad intentioned meanings of common words.

    F that.

INTENT. That should always be the driving factor when choosing words. That's how we've gotten to this rediculous place we are in this country. We're all assumed to be using terms in a derogatory way by the PC. Kind of like someone having a dirty mind---PC'ers have a dirty mind; they always assume we use the words we use in a bad way, so these words need to be "banned." They can't pull their mind out of the gutter, so they assume our mind is there as well.

It's interesting how little things present themselves at prescient moments in our lives.

Just yesterday I watched a clip from "To Kill a Mockingbird" where Atticus provides Scout, his precocious young daughter with this sage bit of advice -

"If you just learn a single trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it."

Pretty good words to live by, I'd say.

Just because some people choose to inject a negative connotation to a words' meaning, it doesn't change it's true definition. Except apparently, for the PC.

There's a difference between being "kind" and gracious--and being PC.

The PC are the simple-minded, who can't seem to focus on the content of the message, only the context. They want to dumb the rest of us down, to their level.

How about we focus on what people do, rather than what people say. There's a challenge for the PC. Afterall, isn't that what really matters?

My geometry teacher in high school used to borrow my pocket knife to clean the pipe he smoked during class. We spent a week in shop class refinishing a shotgun stock for one of the student's grandfather. These folks need to get real. Life is too short for this kind of stupidity.

Last I understood, if an individual is not up to the mental maturation as deemed by ones age they are indeed, retarded. Thus, the decision to even engage this child about his understanding of how he projects his name is exactly that, retarded.

    http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=****

    1. A person with a mental deficiency.
    2. An offensive term used to refer to someone acting in an irritating or generally stupid way.
    3. Usually used to label someone as stupid. Not commonly used to make fun of the disability

Words have multiple meanings and how they are interperated. You can replace the word retareded with what ever word you want and eventually it will come under the same attack by a few people who think it is a derogatory term.

Pretty soon, just saying " Good Morning" will be offensive to someone. Maybe even lanquage in general, and we'll all have to communicate by our thoughts. Nah....that won't work. We'd then have the thought police checking our thoughts. No more thinking about raising the hood on that 19 year olds skirt to see whats under there.
