Awhile back, Infinity made a smaller powered speaker. (2) 4.5" drivers with a 1" tweet in the middle. Anyone remember what the nomenclature for those were?

Nevermind found it. Infinity Overture 1. Thanks me!

Using a pair in my home theater as mains. Great speakers. Hard to find in decent condition, however, for some reason. People seem to like to abuse them. There's a set on eBay right now:

Also, I think the Overture 1 sounds better than the Overture 2 or Overture 3. I auditioned them all back when they were new. I'm not the only one to have this opinion either: http://www.audioreview.com/cat/speakers/floorstanding-speakers/infinity-systems/compositions-overture-1/prd_119655_1594crx.aspx

yes, Overture 1. I've a set in my closet now. near the same size/weight as the LSi9, but with 8" 150W sub built in. To my surprise, they sound very much like the Lsi9s. What I hate the most about them is that the amp for the 8" sub keeps turning on and off. There is no way to keep it ON all the time. That is my only reason for not using them.
Compare to my current Lsi9s. Overture 1 bass isn't as tight or clean, but pretty loud. Both go down very low for the size. both have good , smooth tweeters.
I paid $150 on CL. -

can you use the speakers without the built in subs on? Maybe use an external sub? -

the problem is that 2 4" mids are too small, so they cross the 8" sub pretty high; around 200hz or so. it sucks when you're listening at low volume and the amp turns off. It would be great if they have a ON/Off/Auto switch.
but if you listen at mid/high vol, then no problem. they sound very good too, especially you can get a good set for under $200. currently, there isn't any speakers in the market now that small with a 8" 150w sub built in. -

I'm guessing with a little electronics/soldering skills one could isolate the switch and bypass it to always be on. It's been done before on different subs. Here's a solution I found with a quick Google search:

Used a resistor to keep the capacitor that controls the delay-till-off timer from ever charging. Probably could do something similar with the Overture 1 sub. Could even get really fancy and add a switch to make your own Auto/On switch.

I picked up a pair of RSb infinitys on ebay yesterday, any thoughts on these?
-
I bought a pair of overture 1s when i worked at circuit city about 15 years ago..Got in a financial pinch and sold them to a friend who still has them..I was kicking myself for ever selling them and eventually just bought another set which i own today.
Now i have a pair of monitor 7's, but the ovtr1's are gonna be buried with me cuz they're THAT good!
The retail price back then was $699 each and stands(which i have) were another couple hundred.
If you can find a set for a couple hundred you won't be dissapointed, and the sub amp shutting off must be hit and miss cuz i never noticed it on mine, but then it might be related to the type of music. -
I read that they fixed the amp on/off issue with later version by extend the delay to 15mins or something, instead of 3.

While we're on the subject, I would kill for an Infinity Overture 1-CC if anyone knows where I can find one.

I don't think there is a "Infinity Overture 1-CC". the center is the same.
-
It came with a stand and has the grill badge in a different spot for horizontal placement. Other than that, yes it's the same as a regular Overture 1, AFAIK. But they did sell it as the Overture 1-CC.
I barely missed this listing for one last December and am still kicking myself for it:

It looks like the overture 1 center is just an overture1 with a relocated logo, That is gonna be hard to find..But an infinity cc-3 center would match up perfectly(same tweeter) with adjustable mid and high frequency control, and they always pop up on ebay.
-
Nope, I had a CC-3. Bought it just for that reason, thinking it would blend in well with my Overture 1s, but sold it soon afterwards. I'm using a Polk CS350 as my center. That's what I was using before I tried the CC-3 and have gone back to it after having sold the CC-3. There was a thread about it somewhere. I have determined that timbre-matching a center to your mains isn't nearly as important as having a really good center channel, and the CC-3 is not what I would consider a really good center channel, despite how well it supposedly should have blended with my Overture 1s. A CC-3 is crap compared to the Overture 1 or the CS350, and I played around plenty with the voice-matching controls on the back. I'm happy with the CS350 staying where it is, but still would like to try an Overture 1-CC.

Fair enough, cc-3 was a pretty good center imo but you are probably gonna have to buy a pair of ovtr1's to complete your setup or wait until cows fly to see another overture 1-cc for sale..Good luck with that!

Yeah, I've literally been searching for one for years. I would have no problem buying a pair if they were in decent condition and the price was right, but that is just as hard to find it seems. It still stings when I think of that A-gon listing I missed... $75 shipped!! Dammit, dammit, dammit.

If anyone is still hunting for a pair of Overture 1's (and you should be) a pair has shown up on eBay that is actually a good deal. I keep a saved search for these and this is the first decent deal I have seen in over a year, I think. Normally they are ridiculously overpriced and/or beat to hell. This pair looks great, the price is right, shipping is reasonable, and stands are available as well:

Someone snag them and remove this temptation from me! I don't need another pair. But if I had another pair...
