I currently have a Pioneer DV-414 and want to upgrade and this is my Short list.

1. SONY DVP-NS700P
273.00
2. JVC XV-S65GD
227.00
3. JVC XV-SA75GD
267.00
4. Toshiba SD4700
223.00
5. Toshiba SD5700
297.00

Progressive is a must since I plan on upgrading to capable TV within a Year.
DVD-Audio is not really needed since I dont listen to many CD's at home and dont want to get a player until a clear winner is declared in the SACD/DVD-A wars.

The Prices are what I can get them for at a local B&M store, Belmont TV.

Now, I heard the JVC is not the Best at Interlaced Picture. This is a little concern of mine since I only have a 27" Wega.
The Sony would compliment my decor but What the hell do I care about Decor?

The Toshiba's, I have heard, have some problems but overall not a bad player...

Comments, Thoughts, Suggestions?

    Joe-

Bought a toshiba 9200 at gg a month or so back.
The price has come down from 1599. to 749.
Still not cheap, but it's an impressive machine.

Heavy, solidly built, copper chasis, clear and sharp image. I would consider it in the running.
    Plays dvd audio as well.
The Sony es is also a nice machine, and it too has dropped in price from around 1700. to 1100.

Try Panny RP 91. It has all, progressive, DVD Audio and MP3.
The most important is, it has Dolby Digital and dts encoding. It has 24bit 192khz D/A converter which is good. So if ur receiver can do 192khz, so u can use its decoder.
I bought open box for $340. You can get it for $400 in ebay. Try this one it is really good one!

I have a Toshiba and a JVC. The Toshiba's digital out crapped on me a week after the warranty did also. I gave it to my stepson since he doesn't care about surround sound.

The JVC is still kickin' (knock on wood).
