You know, I kind of get the whole "it's the governments faults" discussions - I don't always agree, but I get it. However, now it appears a lot of our issues can be traced back to music lyrics.

Penn State is banning the use of Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline from being used at their football games. Not because of people either yelling "this song rocks" or "this song sucks" during the bum, bum bum. But rather from the line in it "touching me, touching you".

Hmmm, next thing you know they will stop playing The Boys are Back in Town!

A bit of levity in the face of absurdity is all I see here. If I saw it as you do, I would go insane, and never listen to music again. Every song written for the past 100 years is one double entendre after another.

My wife used to walk around campus singing Usher's "Candy Shop Song" until I told her what the lolipop was.

John, I'm not talking about the songs themselves.

I'm talking about the posts here that use them to find a good belly laugh within the true human tragedy that played out over decades in State College.

I'm sorry, maybe I'm overreacting. I guess there's almost always a place for graveyard humor, but given what some little kid experienced in the showers of the PSU football complex I can't find anything humorous anywhere near that.

Agreed.. I think we are laughing at just how "PC" we have gone, and how absurd this particular descision was. As far as the giant douchebag that did those horrific things, there is no punishment that fits the crime IMHO. The Taliban might have a few ideas that could work though.

For some reason this thread reminded me of a Fox News story during the Gulf War.........

Fox news showed a reporter embedded with the Army Division close to Baghdad. He said that the troops were happy that they were nearing Baghdad and possibly the end of fighting. He said they were singing the Simon and Gafrunkle song "Homeward Bound" indicating they thought they would soon be home.

Fox news then switched to Rick Leventhal their reporter embedded with the 1st MArine Division also just outside Baghdad. Rick was laughing saying "I don't think you'll find Marines singing any Simon and Garfunkle songs."

He turned to a young Marine and asked what song he thought they'd sing to represent what they thought. Without pause the Marine said "Kill 'em All" by Metallica, and walked away.

Correct. It's not about what the SOB did or didn't do and what happened or should have happened after. I will never be able to watch a Penn State game or see a picture of Joe Paterna without thinking about it.

What songs are they going to be able to play that will not revoke those memories? Rock & Roll Part II by Gary Glitter -NO. Any Michael Jackson song? Welcome to the Jungle? You dropped a bomb on me? Whoomp! There it is? Wild Thing? Y.M.C.A.? No. No. No. No. & No.
