Better, in fact, because I didn't get a bunch of crap I have no used for.
Today the Squeezebox Touch and TubeDAC both arrived - one via USPS and the other via UPS, within minutes of one another.
Hope to get 'em hooked up tonight.

It's a sweet TubeDAC-09, purchased here from Blair.
Thanks, Blair!“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'”

So I slept on the floor of the entertainment room last night. Drifted off to neverland with Dark Side of the Moon sounding so clean and warm from an Apple Lossless file, streaming effortlessly to my Squeezebox and then on to the TubeDAC, Luxman, Adcom and finally the LSi-15's.
I've listened to that piece thousands of times, seen Waters do the whole thing live, but I've never, ever heard it like that.
I guess the closest facsimile would be vinyl, but with all those snap crackle and pops it's not even in the same league.

Oh, and I have a question -
I'm thinking that I might should not set the SBT on the TubeDAC because of the little bit of heat that that DAC generates.
Am I being paranoid?
If I don't cover the top vents on the DAC it should be OK, right?
I guess that's two questions...
Thanks.“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'”

I'd be more concerned with transformer inter-action, but you should be fine heat-wise. I guess i'm way out of the loop, or just to old to understand this stuff. But this squeeze box thing...is this just a storage device for digital music? If i have a Jolida cd player, and 500+ cd's....why would i want this? Considering i have no problem in getting up and changeing a cd. Am I missing something here?
-
It's not a storage device at all, it's purely a streaming player. You store the music on a hard drive, run a bit of server software on your computer, and the squeezebox connects to it over your network. It's a whole different ballgame in terms of flexibility. First off, you don't have to get up and change cd's. But also, you can have multiple devices on your network all sharing the same music library. My wife and I each have a Squeezebox Radio on our nightstands as our alarm clocks. I have a Squeezebox Boom in my workshop. I have a Squeezebox classic connected to my whole-house system. Then I have a Squeezebox Touch in my 2-channel system, and another one in my office connected to a headphone amp. They all share one library, and can sync to each other as well.
Also, you can get an app for your phone that acts like a Squeezebox player and remote. So I can control the whole Squeezebox system through my phone, or I can use the phone to play my library even while outside the house. So I don't need to load music onto my iPhone, I just stream from home. Works great connected to my car stereo.Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance. -
stretchl - today and yesterday were my christmas
Yesterday the case for my computer build came in. Today at the same time my NFB-5 came in along with a Sega Genesis . Now I just need to figure out the rest of things and get going"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
Cool, Dan!
What do you think of me putting the SB on top of the DAC?
Any worries there.
I'm trying to figure out exactly how to arrange things before I have someone start drilling holes to hide all the wires.“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'”
