Monitor 60
Hi....I recently bought the Yamaha rx-a720. I was wondering if the monitor 60 speakers and cs20 would sound good with it for the front and center. I just learned about pre outs and amps. The 720 doesn't have pre outs and its too late to return it. Would the speakers still sound good without the extra power? Thanks

Welcome to Club Polk!
The timbre on the CS20 is very similar to a CS2 so I think you're fine if you already have the CS20. If not you could save yourself some cash by going over to newegg and buying a CS2. Either way, that Yamaha should be OK with that set in a normal size room. Just don't PUSH it. Get a nice sub. Set all your speakers to 80hz, that will relieve the Yamaha from any "heavy" lifting and let the sub fill in the bottom. You should be fine!
Good Luck!

Okay thanks for your response. I got everything set up. It doesnt sound that loud. I calibrated it to 75db at 0 at the listening position. I dont go past -15 which is about 94 db directly at the speaker with music. So if I use an spl meter right at the speaker, what decibel do you think I can safely go to without pushing it?

That sounds reasonable. But be careful. DVDs and Blu-rays have high dynamic levels that can spike in microseconds delivering momentary signals that may reach well above your calibrations.
But you're probably OK at 75db. I have my system calibrated at that same level at the seated position, so far so good.
