Musicians? Roland drums, guitar pedal

Hey guys,
I've got a few things that just aren't getting used, and I thought I'd put them up for sale here before they go to ebay.
Ive got a great set of v-drums from Roland. They are the Roland TD-3 set including the brain box. These have three tom pads, a crash, a ride, a sweet nylon head snare, hi-hat and pedal, and kick. I'll get picks up tomorrow, but thought I'd cast the line and see if there is any interest. This is a great compact kit, great for apartments (as you can just throw on the headphones and no one can hear you slamming away). Very nice for beginners, or anyone just wanting a convenient and versatile drum set. This also works as a midi controller and can be used for programs like BFD (as I was using it) or GArage band on a Mac, or for other recording work. I will throw in a throne if you need one for the cost of shipping (maybe $20) three sets of sticks for free, the drum rack/stands/hardware, and the power cord, of course. They are in good shape and completely functioning in every way.
I am asking $400, and will ship for an additional $50 (which equates to about half the shipping charges)
For the guitarists out there, I have an awsome COSM based guitar/amp/effects modeler. It is the Roland VG-88 v.2 This has the updated firmware with the newest patches. This amp/guitar modeler is crazy powerful. If you've never used this system with the GK pickup, you're in for some fun. The pickup is a midi-based piezo that fits onto ANY guitar. Each string is picked up seperately and sent to the processor individually! This allows the processor to detune and tune your guitar to any setting you wish without touching your strings. crazy, I know, but it's awesome. Want to play in open A? tap the floor pedal to that setting. there are 4 patch pedals, 2 bank pedals, and an awesomely accurate expression pedal. Seriously, this thing is limitless.
$375 for this one INCLUDING the GK-2a pickup AND a 20' (i think) planet waves MIDI cord, papers, power cord, etc. For another $35 I will throw in a Johnson control 4-way pedal that can be used for effects bypass, effects control, etc. I will ship for $30.
Let me know if there is any interest!

Cool to see other musicians here on the forum. As a drummer, I can say the Rolands are cool. Especially for this that want to practice and not be heard late at night. The headphone feature on the brain is sure handy!! I'll spread the word on the guitar rig. I may know someone that will love that!!"if it's not fun, it's not worth it & remember folks, "It's All About The Music"!!

I don't need to be spending this kind of money right now, but an inexpensive MIDI-capable drum kit is something I've been wanting for a while. However I've been reading up on the TD-3 and some people claim it doesn't do dynamics (well one person did)--hits are all the same volume regardless of how hard you strike the drum. Is this true? Surely not...

depending on the former user. If the pads were beat to heck then the sensitivity mode does lose it's mojo, but brand new, they are cool. Great price on the set!!"if it's not fun, it's not worth it & remember folks, "It's All About The Music"!!

Can the sensitivity be repaired if it does wear out, or does that mean it's time for new pads?

Completely incorrect. ALL the pads AND cymbals have dynamic control and have good range from light taps to hits. Also it can detect rimshots, bell hits on the cymbals, flat hits, etc.design is where science and art break even. -

Pads would need to be replaced, but I've never experienced this. This set has only been lightly used, never abused. Adult owned and used.
My uncle has a large set that he has had for 10+ years and never felt any need to change a pad (I just confirmed this with him)design is where science and art break even. -
If the drum kit is still for sale the next time I get paid, I'll take it. But of course I don't expect you to hold it for me.

Yes, with this understanding, the pads will be sensitive to touch. The only way these pads go bad is from hitting them waaaaaay too hard, so this seems like a great little deal here."if it's not fun, it's not worth it & remember folks, "It's All About The Music"!!

Rooftop, thanks for reminding me of something.
I am doing quite a bit of driving coming up soon: Southern Illionois; Dallas, Texas; Western Iowa; Missouri; Portland, OR (flying)
SO, If you're in any of these places, or along the trail, I can bring it to you for the pickup price. Let me knowdesign is where science and art break even. -
oh, I'll have to charge for Portland, though, because it will be oversized on the plane. But I'd do it for $30 and eat the restdesign is where science and art break even.

dude you really want to torture me. I would love to start teaching my son the drums. he already loves to beat things  But seeing as he's 9 months, I don't know if I can use that as leverage to convince the wife.
When will you be in Dallas? May give me time to convince her...Living Room 2.2: Usher BE-718 "tiny dancers"; Dual DIY Dayton audio RSS210HF-4 Subs with Dayton SPA-250 amps; Arcam SA30; Musical Fidelity A308; Sony UBP-x1000es

Does anyone know if electronic drums are bad to learn on? I somehow am imagining that nuance and technique might be different and you'll end up learning the wrong way. Versus learning on real kit and then moving to these later.

Great question. not a good way to learn as the Rolands are dumbly proof, meaning, anyone with half a sense of rhythm can play them and make it sound good. Sooooo serious. I have You Tube vids up "tophatjohnny" is my user name, so seeing is believing. I am not all that good, but I have won my share of drum contests and played with a ton on national entertainers and teach to this day, Not a good learning set at all!! That's my professional opinion. Not trying to a be a buxx kill. They are fun to play either way!!"if it's not fun, it's not worth it & remember folks, "It's All About The Music"!!

Rubber pads are decent for practicing when you don't want to make a whole lot of noise, but they do not play anything like a real drum head. Not even the Real Feel brand practice pads actually feel all that real. I suspect if one was to learn drumming on rubber pads, they would become too dependent on the bounce of the rubber, whereas they should be building up their chops and stick control on a less-bouncy head. When I want to really get my chops back into shape, I practice on a pillow.
That said the snare pad in this kit has a pseudo-head on it, so it might be OK for learning. But really, if you want to learn drumming properly, the first thing you need to learn is proper technique and stick control, which I would recommend doing on a real snare drum, with a proper instructor. Once you get that down, transferring those skills to drumset is easy. But you have to learn to crawl before you can walk, so to speak. If you just start banging away on a drum kit without knowing proper technique or stick control, you are going to teach yourself all kinds of bad habits, and it's a lot harder to unlearn something than it is to learn it properly from the start.
