How bad the weather affects your reception is also based of how well your dish is aimed in the first place. See what kind of signal strength you get on a clear night. If it is already weak it doesnt take much rain or snow to cause problems.

I've been on DirecTV for many years, basically since 1080HD started. What I've noticed: 1.) Resolution is excellent. Sorry cable. Have not seen a cable feed to date that can match resolution on every channel. Have not seen Uverse on a good TV. 2.) My reception goes out maybe 2-3 times a year for about 3-5 minutes. When I had cable during every severe store, reception was lost for 20 min - 1hour. Whole house DVR is awesome. You do have to record the show on a non DVR receiver to pause and rewind. For $30, I bought their wireless connection kit. I can stream videos and music from my computer to all receivers in my house. Can you say music in every room and outside for $30. This is a very nice feature. Why'll no service is cheap. I pick them for picture quality period!
