Experince at the local "HiFi Store"
I'm a big noob in the audio world I started off 3+ years ago into this journey right here at Club Polk. However I have reached a point of curiosity for some of the better stuff out there. In ABQ it is very slim picking for High end electronics. Listen Up audio out of Denver now has a store here so on my lunch break I decided to go check out some of the "gear".
This is all my opinion about some speakers on this particular visit at this store. I wont get to detailed so take everything I say with a grain of salt.
Listened to the following:
Golden Ear Triton 3, Physicaly its a imposing beast, sound wise i'll keep my A7's very, very disappointed not sure if it was just a crappy setup or what? Tons of bass the rest was just gross.....
PSB Image T5, ehhh not very memorable to me
B&W CM8 Wow huge sound stage for such a small box very clean sound, also very thin sound. I'll take my A7's for HT performance over these any day. Music CM8 all day long.
B&W PM-1 These are going to be my next speakers!! Holy snikes batman I loved these freaking things and there in a price range I can afford! If it wasnt for being married they would have come home with me. I just got to hear them with music but wow it was so clean and smooth.
Magpen 3.7's , Those are the uggliest speakers on the planet, however it was the coolest audio experince of my life. I am still in aw from that demo. I cant explain it but you cant really tell where the sound is comming from its so non directional its was very, very cool:eek:
Overall going to the store was very eye opening there is nothing like being able to touch and hear the gear with your own ears.

It's those Maggies you will never forget. The sound from them make them vanish before your eyes. Now that you have experienced them, you will have a pair someday.
I would be happy to send you my MMG's for you to try. Just cover the shipping...The Gear... Awesome offer, John!
I am a big Maggie fan myself. One nice thing about them is you can start small (cheap) to get a taste of the sound, and then if you like it, you just move up as your room and wallet allow.
I had a similar experience with some Golden Ears a few months back. Don't remember the model; weren't worth remembering.2-Channel: PC > Schiit Eitr > Audio Research DAC-8 > Audio Research LS-26 > Pass Labs X-250.5 > Magnepan 3.7's

Dont do it...... the Maggie bug will bite you HARD. John, I blame you for my and my wife's addiction to their sound....... You could just send your MMG's to me permenately
My only suggestion is you still really do need a sub for the visceral feel of bass if your like me. The Maggies have room filling bass and it surrounds you, but it wont punch you in the face like some like."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Thanks John for the offer. I will definetly have to entertain that Idea. Those 3.7's were unlike any other speaker I have had the pleasure of listening to. I would reccomend that if you have never had the oppurtunity to check out that style of speaker to find a demo and give it a listen, very cool stuff.
Out of everything that I got to listen to today the Golden Ears suprised me the most. After everything I have read about them I seriously thought they were in the running for my next set of speaks. Uggg they were awful!!Living Room

If HT is your thing take a listen to the Mythos ST towers. I enjoyed them much better than the RTI line and they're musical.
