I put up the flag first thing EVERY morning and take it down at dusk. It never remains out in the rain or past dark without a light on it. Far too many here don't respect the flag, or what it stands for, nearly enough. And those who burn the flag, or desecrate it in some other manner, "in protest".....OH! DON'T GET ME STARTED! I've got a few other places in mind where they can try living for a while that might change their tune.

I would ask flag burners, "why do you live in a country, that you obviously hate?" "Do you lack the courage of your convictions to live somewhere else?" Burning the Flag is a hollow gesture, for the weak of mind, principle, and integrity.

Proud flag flyer myself. I say send all the flag burners to South Africa, maybe they'd like it better there:

Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

A lot of blood, sweat, and tears went into that Flag. Long live Old Glory!

I used to put her up every morning and take her down every night, but I installed a nice set of floodlights that shine on Old Glory all night long. Now she only comes in from the rain.

What is sad is how few you are seeing again. I thought it would last after 9/11. It was nice and felt good to see the Flag on almost every house in the neighborhood. I guess people forget how great this country is. Or is the right word Complacent.

What burns my butt the most along with flag burners are the ones that flay an old torn, faided flag. You know the
flags tht look pink and about three inches are missing from the end with tassels flying. TAKE IT DOWN and Buy
a new one for pete sakes!!!
I seen a flag blown down off the bridge that city decorates and land on road, do ya think passing traffic would stop
to pick it up NO. some jerk run over it before I could get to it. I gave him the your #1 sign.

This story made me think about how good we actually have it here and how thankful I am for freedom of speech.

    Thanks, Steve, for the post.

The freedom to burn the flag in this country is an example, IMO, of what makes this country great: the freedom to be a butthead or obnoxious if one so chooses.
Nice if you're not, to be sure, but in the US it's your choice, not the mandate of the government.

Nice link too, Strongbad. Well worth reading also.

Like Aaron Lewis, there's two flags that fly above my land. High and proud is the red, the white, and the blue. The other flag has a rattlesnake with a simple statement made ..... Don't Tread on Me.

I've been flying my colors for 15 to 20 years from the same spot. I also replace it with a new one every couple to three years depending on weather wear. We take her down only if a bad lightning with high winds comes through. Sometimes she even rides them out too.

Where she is placed, all people who come to my front door via the walkway, has to walk under her. I love that fact.
When she gets wound up tight every month or two, I stop whatever I'm doing and go unwind her. Letting her wave freely is very important to me.

Also, when I fly her at half staff, people will have to duck or go around her as they pass and that there gives her more importance during those days.

    May she fly forever !!
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.
