I just received a set of am40 speaker mounts. The instructions say to use the studs, but i dont think i have a stud near the location where i need them so i was wondering, can you mount these mounts by using 4 good quality anchors? has anyone done this?
thanks in advance!

I'll try to be nicer in this response....
You probably can mount in the drywall depending on the weight of speaker being mounted. How far away from a stud is your "ideal" location? It may be worth moving if the speakers are substantial and the insructions recommend going directly into studs. IF a stud is near, another option would be to make a backing out of 1/2" hardwood stained or painted that you could attach to the stud and then attached the bracket on the plywood. I had to do this recently when mounting a TV wall mount that was not wide enough to reach the studs in my wall where I was trying to center the tv on. Youmight be able to. Read about the suggested anchors in this thread. I wont be held liable if it doesnt work though.
I have my LSi F/X mounted directly to the wall with those anchors. The main issue you might come up with is with the AM40 mounts, your putting a TON of weight on those anchors because the mount hangs out there 15 inches or more and the weight is all bearing down on the bottom bolt. Personally I would do as suggested and paint a piece of wood (plywood or other) to match your wall color, screw that into the two studs that you want to mount the speaker between and then mount the AM40 to that piece of wood with screws."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted."
