Who has owned/heard LSi7's with modified crossovers?

Raise your hand if you have owned or heard some hot rod LSi7's!

With the great price Polk is selling them for now, and the simplicity of the crossover design, I may pull the trigger on a pair and drop in some boutique capacitors.

Looking at the schematic per speaker:
(1) 16.5 uf cap
(2) 12. uf caps
(1) 2.5 ohm resistor
(1) 0.5 ohm resistor

After searching and reading a few threads regarding the upgrade, just curious to see how many active members have done this and been pleased with the results.

Since VR3 mods them, I'm sure his comment comes from "experience", above!

Mine do not have mods but they're still better, IMHO, than unmodded Lsi-9s (just a little less bass)!

I don't think you have much to lose here!

Let us know if you go through with this. I just bought a pair for ridiculously cheap and will be doing this at some point. These speakers are headed for my new addition. I was going to use Clarity Caps & Mills resistors, let us know what you decide. Cheers.

I have heard them modded, but not stock. I bought these from sandworms and I believe the work was done by Face. I used the DSOTM bluray from the immersion set in 2 channel to kick things off. I liked them enough that I decided to switch to an LSI HT and sell my RT5000p set up.

I am in the process of getting the parts to try some modded LSI9s for the fronts due to some of the recent close out pricing.

I did place some RT55 in their place yesterday as a comparison. The RT brought more bass for HT. I lost the soundstage and warmth that I had gotten used to with the LSI7s. The RTs are on their way to my garage or to a freind for HT.

I've heard these, the ones that I did a while back.

Actually, I think you probably replied somewhere in that thread, but anyway, they turned out just fine. They're not really "for me", but the current owner (my dad) is quite happy. When he picked them up, I gave him an audition for about 2 hours, and on certain types of music and recordings, they sounded quite nice.

Please do it and let's us know. Been thinking about contacting vr3 to mod mine but I don't see too many people modding 7's. They sound great on my 2ch rig stock. I would thing they would sound better with an upgrade

    G~,
Forgot about this thread! Thanks for the link and as usual your skills are, well, better than most.

I want some maple or lite oak LSi7's. Wonder if the new style LSi's that Polk are selling now with the sides glued on will be tough to remove. Need to get my search on and see if anybody else has tried...

Speakers and cars.....the newer they are, the harder they are to work on (read "DIY").
