Can anyone tell me what a good price for this amp in great condition might be? I've never owned or heard any Adcom gear. I don't really need another power amp. But my curiosity is peaked about this one. Seems the MkII is the one people prefer from what I have read. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hey gary, i just bought a beautiful 555 for 265, i think that is about what they are worth if you dont get a great deal on one.
Heiney and some others had a discussion i checked before buying this one, he said that none other than nelson pass himself said that adcom added unnecessary complications and a darlington something or other that complicated it unnecessarily.
He and heiney said they preferred the original.
Now thats just one thread, but i trust brocks research and opinions, especially when it comes to adcom gear.
good luck trying to find one, it added a lot to our system, and although my 5400 i have on the fs section here served us very well, the 555 is definitely a step up.humpty dumpty was pushed -
300 is the going price for most 555s; depending on condition and newness of model you can go up a quarter or down a quarter.
They're very reliable, powerful, and clean, neutral sounding gear. And were once the industry "giant killer" back in the '80s. I have an original and it's not going anywhere even though it's not currently in use!
Try it, you might like it?

$75? You could flip it in a second for $250. No brainer!
