New guy here, just trying to gain some knowledge before I spend money on the wrong equipment.
I just picked up a set of Polk RTA 11t's and my current Sony 5.1 receiver isn't going to cut it. I think I will be best suited with just a 2-channel set up. I have the Sony powered sub that came with receiver and the RTA 11t's.
What are my options?
-HDMI would be a plus, I would like to be able to run cable/xbox through the receiver as well.
Suggestions? What kind of power could I send to these?
Thanks,
Ian

Welcome to Club Polk Ian!
Get whichever receiver that has all the bells & whistles that you want it to have and make sure it has preouts to add a separate amplifier.
For amplifier power get at least a 200wpc at 8ohms amp. Some good amps Parasound, Sunfire, Rotel, B&K, Nad, Adcom, Outlaw Audio, Emotiva. The last two are good bang for the buck brand new, and the others will be a great buy if you buy them used on Audiogon.com, here are some good choices.

I appreciate the help. So am I just better off going with a receiver and an amp?
Could I get away with a receiver that is less wpc as long as the amp has higher wpc? I could save money on a receiver that is say, 75wpc instead of 125wpc.

Yes, get a lower priced receiver that has preouts so that you can put that money towards an amp. The amp will allow your speakers to operate to their full potential.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2

I have the RTA-11TL's and find them pretty easy to drive with my Denon DRA-835R 2ch receiver from 1991 which is rated 100W into 8 ohms. I also tried my Denon AVR-888 which seemed up to the challenge but lacked the clarity and sound stage of the older, beefier Denon.
I assume the RTA-11T has similar specs to the TL.Stan
Main 2ch:
Polk LSi15 (DB840 upgrade), Parasound: P/LD-1100, HCA-1000A; Denon: DVD-2910, DRM-800A; Benchmark DAC1, Monster HTS3600-MKII, Grado SR-225i; Technics SL-J2, Parasound PPH-100.
HT:
Marantz SR7010, Polk: RTA11TL (RDO198-1, XO and Damping Upgrades), S4, CS250, PSW110 , Marantz UD5005, Pioneer PL-530, Panasonic TC-P42S60
Other stuff:
Denon: DRA-835R, AVR-888, DCD-660, DRM-700A, DRR-780; Polk: S8, Monitor 5A, 5B, TSi100, RM7, PSW10 (DXi104 upgrade); Pioneer: CT-6R; Onkyo CP-1046F; Ortofon OM5E, Marantz: PM5004, CD5004, CDR-615; Parasound C/PT-600, HCA-800ii, Sony CDP-650ESD, Technics SA 5070, B&W DM601 -
Well, I picked up an amp and pre-amp today. I found a Yamaha M-65 and C-60 for sale locally. Wow, what an improvement.

That's a cool combination Ipsullivan.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
