Will Monitor 7 xover work in a Monitor 10

I've got a parts set to scavenge and there doesn't seem to be a large difference in the values. Has anyone resorted to this change over?

Depending on what version of 7's the xo is from and what version 10's you have, some of the values are the same. You could change the xo values to match what they should be for your version of 10's.

They are both the original first versions. I have had the 7s for awhile and just came across the 10s. I like the sound of the 10s better, a noticeable difference in the bass for sure. I guess I'm willing to give it a try since both pairs are projects. The 7s have some cabinet damage and the 10s one of the tweets isn't functioning. Thought I would swap the both xo if they were close, not interested in investing much money in either set. I've had newer Polks and found them to be adequate but not overwhelming in any way especially compared to the Klipsch Heresy that I use as my main stereo pair. Thanks for the response.

So are you sure the problem is the xo? I could simply be a blown fuse. If yours have one fuse, it is for the tweeter. If it has 2 fuses, one is for the mid-bass and the other for the tweeter. If it has no fuses, it has polyswitches which do tend to go bad but can be bypassed. The other possibility is that the tweeter is bad.

As has been pointed out if a tweeter is not working check the XO first, The later models 10B's have a polyswitch ( a little blue thing that looks like a little mica cap) which protects the tweeter from overload. They don't age very well and at a point can deteriorate to the point the tweeter will stop working. You have the Monitor 7's pull one of the tweeters swap out the non-functional one. This tweeter might not be the exact model used but at least you can tell if the tweeter you removed is the problem. Polk Audio has replacement drivers for the both the Monitor 7, and 10. You will want to refurbish the XO with new cap's and replace the Polyswitch, if it has one, with a non-inductive resistor. There is a whole host of info on this subject on this forum. Including the refurbish job I did on My Monitor 10B's

Checked the tweet definitely ok so I swapped out the xo from the 7s and they sound great. I notice very little difference in the sound possibly a touch less openness on the highs but does not hurt the overall sound. Thanks for the replies and the advice. I've been on this forum for a while and you all give excellent answers, thanks again.

The 10B's have an extra resistor in the signal path with the tweeter inductor.

It would be better to refresh the proper x-over than to swap it with another models x-over.

I think I have a pair of monitor 10 crossovers at home. Send me a pm and I'll be happy to give them to you for the cost of shipping.
