It needs some repair. The unit powers on and works sometimes without issue, however recently some of the channels would drop almost like there some sort of short? I had to rerun the Audussey a couple of times. It worked but the issue would shortly return. I would imagine some out here could fix it. I would not have a clue, besides I wanted to try something else. This is why I'm offering it for free to a fellow Polkie. I would really prefer pick up. If absolutely necessary, I will ship from my local post office at the receiver's expense. I have everything it came with including the original sturdy box, instructions, remote and set up mic. The receiver is being offered with everything, I don't want to give it away piece-meal.

I'm interested, how much to ship to Queens? I can also pick it up since you are in Brooklyn.

I prefer a local pick up but if no local takers, I would be willing to ship for actual cost.

I can do a local pick up as I am pretty much a short hop away from the Grand Central and BQE.

If there are no other takers, I can fix the unit.

Sweet deal, I have an 806 and it is a quality unit. If it didn't cost much for the repair, it could be a real score for whoever gets this thing.

Got back home with the unit. Thanks Brad!

Just a few observations while testing: The unit seems to function fine in 2 channel mode but immediately goes into protect when a surround mode is selected and the volume is turned up. Without tearing it apart, I guess most likely a bad FET on one of the surround channels is shorted and taking down the unit.

It works in Stereo mode though, not a problem yet.

Power supply section looks good so far. Has a shorted part in the output stage, just need to do some troubleshooting to find out where and which channel. It's been playing fine in Pure Audio (2 channel) mode for the past few hours, so I doubt there is anything wrong with the L/R.

Was this always connected to an external amp or was it powering your speakers at some point? I forget..

Unit is currently working in 5 channel mode. When the Surround Back speakers are enabled, the unit goes into protection mode. I'll have to change 12 transistors to get the unit back to working order, but it works fine powering 5 channels.

    Just a friendly reminder -

After taking this unit apart and looking at the design, it seems that this receiver wasn't really designed to run cool or have a long life. The output transistors are very close to each other, and the HDMI board is right on top of the unit taking up all the heat from the other components. For those of you who own this unit, I recommend keeping it in an open space - not inside a cabinet - and letting it vent directly into the room. This will help to prolong the life of the unit as they sure do run hot!
