This forum has got me more interested in high end headphones! I have a pair of the HD600 headphones, maybe 10 hours of use and that is being generous, paid $600 back when they were selling for that, cool box they came in, Cardas cable upgrade... $300 plus $25 shipping, lower 48. Have been very sensitive about keeping them pristine in a condition, someone else would not mind wearing them (clean hair etc). I think new ones with standard cable go for around $300. Raw cable was around $100 and was worth every penny. Time to upgrade!

Maybe time to convert to balanced. The Senn hd6x0 headphones scale up nicely.

I've been heavy into headphones for about 3 years and don't miss anything 2CH at all. It's really nice to kick back and settle in for the night with no issues about volume or waking my wife up anymore. I've been thru open, closed and in-ear and love the Shure in-ear's I have now. If I go back to a more traditional pair, I'm going to try a few different Beyerdynamic and AKG since I've only heard 1 model of each brand over the years. I've heard or owned most of the Grado, Sennheiser, Sony and Stax so I need to check out some other brands. There's a ton of fun in store for you Max....and CanJam would be perfect and you couldn't ask for a better location huh? I'd be interested in what you end up buying, keep us posted.

Why is this in Headphones and not the FS area?
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Because he really doesn't want to sell them!
But if any of you out there want a good set of cans- this is the set.
The 600's with the cardas cable may be the last set you ever buy.
Some debate that the 600 is better than the 650.Find a good used amp or DIY one and you are all set.

Hifi for a fraction of the cost of a speaker rig.

The HD600 and HD650 definitely have their own sound signatures. They're more like distant cousins than close relatives. For anyone that likes a relatively neutral signature and a soundstage that will surprise you coming out of headphones, go for the HD600s. You can't go wrong.

You hit it on the head I think! I wondered where the thread went. After some research I found there are some used ones going for a much better price, although much more used up, so would rather keep them in my collection. I'm still planning on some new models to try but wonder if I'm going to enjoy others more than these. Presently working on a bass tactile transducer system to go with these.

Sold to Assimilated! This will help pay for the new ones. These were never quite my cup of tea so I didn't use them much. About once a year I'd get the bug to listen to them, maybe half a CD. I think they just don't have synergy with the amp I'm using.

The new set is the HiFiMan HE-6, expect them tomorrow.

Good stuff. I got to listen to a couple of models of HIFIMAN at the last Dallas mini-meet.
The Sennheisers need a bit of eq. I downloaded the advanced EQ plugin for FOOBAR and
made adjustments form some test graphs of the hd-650. It made a difference. I could never
get it right by ear- there were some unexpected rises and dips that didn't make sense until
I just did it and listened.
Good deal all around. The HIFIMAN cans are top notch.

Just curious, which models did you hear? I'm curious how the HE-400 sounds compared to their other models.

The he-400 and 500 are different animals, more efficient but don't sound quite as good.

Yeah I already have a pair of these 600 and totally don't need these, but want to try the cable and for the price this was a total no brainier...

He-5 and HE-500. Think he-500 all the way. I'd like to add a he-400 to the list as well.
Other than meets, hard to hear any of these. Face, Being where you're at you should be able
get to a head fi gathering and get up close and personal with a set.

    Thanks for the feedback.

There are occasional head fi gatherings in the area, but I've only heard the HE-5(or was it 500?) and HE-6 from Hifiman. I was curious about the HE-400's for my brother, I'm trying to get him hooked.
