Can anyone advise on the modifications the seller of this unit has told me about?
Here's the ad:

And here's what he said has been done to it:
"As for the modifications, it is not possible to utilize all 7 outputs
(you know 7.1 suround) because they have been disconnected. You can
only through HDMI output. There are only a set of upgraded Vampire
silver plated single ended RCA connectors. Also electrolytic
capacitors were replaced with more premium ones (Panasonic) in the
power supply section and signal path. The opamps (which can be
changed) are still the same."
I will be using the player exclusively for 2 channel output.
Thanks!

Let me see if I understand this, all he did was change out some caps and eliminate all but 2 of the analog outputs ? Is that right ?
Seeing that SACD is a 5.1 format, why would you do that ? Also, by only having hdmi as an output, your by passing the internal dacs in the OPPO which was one of it's strong points. Sounds like a hack job to me, just sayin' is all. I guess if all you wanted it for was 2 channel listening, it could work.
Personally, I'd save some and spend the coin on a Squeezebox or Sonos unit and start streaming music rather than changing cd's every 3 rd song. Thats just me though, plenty of good cdp's out there for 150 bucks anyway if thats your thing.HT SYSTEM-

Hi tony.
Our DVD DVD player just went kaput, and I can't get my rotel cd player to boot. I'm thinking the dv-980h would be a reasonable purchase since it does both.
I do have my eye on a squeezebox, but I see that as a future purchase since it will take so long to migrate from my current mp3 files to my preference AIFF.
With that said, I don't understand exactly what the guy did, either, and may just wait for another player to surface.“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'”
