Best In-Ceiling Setup
Hello,
I'm a semi noobie when it comes to HT Setups. Would like someone's recommendation for a new setup.
We have a 15 x 15 family room that is prewired in ceiling for 7.1. The speakers have to be in ceiling (unfortunately no getting around that). The main issue I'm having is searching for a good center channel in ceiling speaker. In our last home we had 7 Polk TCi in ceiling speakers and I even with the adjustable tweeters we were having a hard time hearing dialog. You would always have to crank up the sound and then when a special effect come one you about jumped out of your seat because it was turned up so loud. I really like the quality of the TCi series but is there a better in ceiling speaker Polk makes for the Center Channel?

Welcome to the forum, Bobby. I'm far from an expert, but I would think it would be very difficult to successfully use an in ceiling speaker for the center channel. I've found that speaker placement of the center channel is critical, and can't imagine it would sound good coming from the ceiling. Is an in wall speaker out of the question? Hopefully, others will chime in that are more knowledgeable than me, with some good ideas.McIntosh MA252 Integrated Amp, LUMIN D2 Network Music Player, Yamaha Aventage RX-A840 receiver, Emotiva XPA Gen3 2 channel amp, Polk LSiM 703 speakers. Would it be possible for you to only use the wiring in the ceiling for the surrounds and use standard bookshelf and/or floor standing speakers for L/R/C?

Pre-wired or not, using in-ceiling speakers for your front or center channels is far, far from ideal. Just because it's there doesn't mean you have to use it.
