Just "auditioned" RTi8 vs. 70 at CC

Just got back from CC to pick up this weeks dvds. They did have the 8s in there now. I was only one in their "sound" room. I turned off all center, surrounds, and subs so it was just the pair of mains playing. I used the HK 525 receiver and a HK dvd player which had the Eagles hell freezes over in it. Do not know exactly how they were set up, but I'm pretty sure they were both high passed judging from the bass output (or lack thereof I should say). I could just a/b switch between them.
Bottom line, I thought the 8s sounded better. The new tweeter is crisper and seemingly more detailed than the 70's, but yet at the same time, while still being smooth and without being too "bright" as the old tri-lams were.
The new series is better to my ears.
Price was $350 ea.
I will definitely be trading my 2 pairs of 70s in for 2 pairs of 8s just as soon as they go on sale.

Cool, what was your impression of their looks? I haven't got to see them first hand yet. Did they have a cool factor look to them, or somewhat on the cheap side look? Just wondering ;)

I thought the new RTi line sounded better also, on the Polk Tour. I have to say that the new look is outstanding, I love it.

I wish that I had known before buying my RTi's. The grudge and ammo storage will continue, grrrrrrr
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Terrax, I agree with the other 2. I thought they looked great, but I still haven't seen the cherry, as they didn't have any of those yet on display.
Looks aside though, the main thing is the sound. Just as I thought this last series was an upgrade and improvement on the previous series with the tri-lams, this series is also IMHO better than the last. Not dramatically so mind you, but a step forward nonetheless.

Well i went to CC last weekend just for something for the family and i to do, (Ie:out shopping) and looking for open box Rti's or what not, they finally had a set of Rt8's on display.. BUT only had the rti100's for comparison... Now that i look and listen again.. Im kinda starting to dig them... By the way, they only had black.. and the above cherry closeup is much nicer IMO.. very nice!
They sounded fuller, the tweet had a dicernable different sound to me then the 100's.. and in comparison sounded much better, although wish a set of 70's were sitting there next to em to compare.. The large center was also on display although i didnt demo it, Man that thing is huge! I though my csi40 was big... they do look sweet, I originally started a thread on not being impressed with em, I changed my mind.. BUT the grills.. come on polk, I went to remove the grill on one and it bent in half only held on by the bottom and center holders.. But it didnt break.. kinda flimsy.. what are they made of anyways?? rubber or plastic?? Nice sound and looks overall

BTW, while I was in the "room', a young (early to mid 20s) saleslady walked in on me. She was new, as I'd never seen her in that store before. Tall (close to 6'), slim, pretty, blonde, big **** in proportion to her frame (I'd say a c cup). tight ****, flat stomach, long legs. She also actually knew her stuff too. She mentioned that she liked HK better than Onkyo, and that she always tried to steer people who came in hell bent and determined to buy Bose towards either Polk or Infinity.
I almost fell in love on the spot!

Maybe you should have complimented her on her 'big ****' and 'tight ****', women love those kind of classy statements. :o
Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.

She kind of reminded me of a celebrity, but I couldn't quite put my finger on (no pun intended) which one it was. Well, I just thought of who it was I think she kind of looks kind of like. I don't know her name offhand, (I'd probably recognize it if I heard it), but she was the actress that used to play JR's secratary on Dallas. I think Sly was her name in the show, if that rings a bell for anyone.

So true KT. You just don't seem to find very many as into it as she seemed to be, especially that looked like her. She really is gorgeous.
